Hype over newcomers O'Gorman & Bartolomeu seemed to have got out of hand and the SPs for horses with solid profiles remarkably long. Al Khan talked up by trainer as a promising horse and very good mover in 211 and ready enough. The Blue Banana a NMKJ debut for Meehan so ought to be ok and SP preposterous (Meehan on website said = "made a promising debut, staying on late at Newmarket. Showing plenty of speed at home, so should not mind the drop to six furlongs. Place chances" & you wonder whether other trainers fall for the hype as well.. Bartolomeu another FTO 'failure' for Botti who seems just not to prepare FTOs as he used to. Looked a huge build and very promising getting to the leaders late on ability rather than being pressed. Had been well enough placed in 2R but his side of the group got caught out by stands' side half moving forward before 2f out. This dropped him back and he then took time to get going because green but solid progress late on. Opposite problem for O'Gorman who ran much too freely behind the slower pace and never settled and stumbled +2f as fighting the jockey. Able to make progress behind the side of the field that made the early effort but then fading late on because of the free running. |
