SUMMARY
Hannon after the race when HW put up a similar performance, seemingly not fully pressed, as the three battling out the finish of the July Stakes earlier = "Richard Hannon has always considered Harbour Watch to be one of his best two-year-olds, and the colt confirmed the favourable impression he showed at Salisbury on his debut when sluicing up by four and a half lengths in the conditions race at Newmarket on Thursday. The boss said: 'We took this easier route rather than heading for the July Stakes, but we will definitely be looking for Group races now. Easy ground clearly suits Harbour Watch well, and when the rains came our hopes increased, though Burwaaz had the form from Royal Ascot and there were whispers for a few of the others, so it was impossible to be too confident. Robin Heffer, who has been in Canford Cliffs from the start, owns Harbour Watch, and maybe he better start practicing his speech because we are considering sending this colt to York for the Gimcrack Stakes. Peter Doyle bought Harbour Watch for 58,000gns at Tattersalls Sales, but we gave the colt plenty of time as the weight fell off him when he arrived and we had to start working on getting the condition back on him again. Harbour Watch is another advertisement for Acclamation, who is proving a terrific sire, and he looked the part before he went to Salisbury, so we hoped he would continue to progress, which he obviously has. He enjoys some juice in the ground, so if it did come up fast at York we could always keep him back for the Prix Morny at Deauville the following Sunday."
