SUMMARY
Stiff breeze on day as a Tailwind in the back straight and a Headwind in the home straight.

Interesting effort by Monnoyer. Trainer Noseda normally starts a solid group from early May and is very FTO oriented. This run a little early but stable is ahead of schedule this year and the odd early one usually a solid of better type. Horse looks like his sire is less powerful. Sire relied on superior athleticism and Monnyer leggy and rangy and seems to have a good portion of that and not be a straight early sprinter. Green in the prelims and did a number of things wrong in the race but still won comfortably.

Winners at 5f at the course tend to be in the first 4 through halfway and within 2L of the lead. Further back than that and you tend to need some help to win (like the leaders going too fast). The other way to break that model is to much better than the others so you can make more ground. Monnoyer in stall 6 here with the two previous runners inside him along with the Dascombe & Hannon newcomers. So, always a chance he could get shouldered back to midfield if he was a bit green. Which is what happened and driven along into the bend and 5th through halfway around 3.5L off the lead. He got two bits of 'help' in that there wasn't a readier OR76+ type in front of him who would have been hard to run down. Also, the track was supporting wide runs into the straight and making ground in centre track. He produced quite a taking effort to close up to the leaders 2f out on the turn to the straight and then continued this to take the lead and finish clear. Green in the lead and won without knowing what he was doing. Not a strong performance FTO but a one to take a positive view on being able to rate much higher as he learns. Presume OR85+.

Courtland King not Open maiden winner type but competitive OR60s. Circumstantials around his previous runs suggested he was better than he had shown having been to green on debut then faded off being bullied into the lead STO. Held up in 2R here and in his first-time Tongue Tie. Able to produce and ok effort of a more restrained run here without looking Open Maiden class.

Dascombe FTO runner LAMcjones proved to be the most competent as would be expected. Able to get to 2R ok and rail well to the straight. Produced a similar effort to CKing and possibly on a slower bit of the track as the only prominent racer to stay far side. Smaller, compact, ready sprinter. Again, not obviously Open Maiden class but competent OR65-72 sprinter. Even with the support for Monnoyer he should have been shorter in the Market overall if the stable though he was a better one.

Wolfgang a NR at Nottingham 2 days ago with 'Sore Shins' (the Hannon stable's excuse-of-choice for tactical NRs). Has now been declared for 2 x non-£10k Bonus races and a cheap one for a major owner. Stable website called him "Small but speedy" and he managed to look small here and green with it. Not a lot of speed on show and a negative on Review and one the stable is going have to work with.

Complex yet another, family owned, small one for David Evans and limited ability. 10L off the lead out of the back straight and driven along. Fit enough to plug on into the faders in the straight but no interest. A different story with Vinnie Jones as the first runner of the year for John Gosden. Very selective with his few 5f debuts and has a good STO record with them. But, his earliest debuts at 5-6f can be rancid and VJ fulfilled that. Clueless in the back straight and last, 12L off the lead around the bend. Plugged on in the stright and given a quiet time. Never got back to the much smaller Complex who was more vigorously ridden. But, a solid physical type and believable as a 5f type. One to expect to perform much better if he turns out over 5f STO.

PWind ran better than his final position and does not stay 5f currently. But, produced a solid effort at 2f otu having been pestered in front around the bend. Only headed by the winner around 1f out then folded badly in the last 0.5f. Not a lost cause and migth develop to be usable at 5f in the right set-up.

Jawim an early filly runner for the trainer so migth be usable but small and unfit here so will need to develop well. SDeelyte blasted along wide to in the back straight to get to the lead in Lane 1 into the bend. Small and always going to fade badly off that sort of effort. Trainer has not managed a 2yo winner from 34 individual runners 2004-10. Enough said.
