SUMMARY
Auction race with weights set by the sales prices achieved by the runners. For horses that cost £14,000 or less with weight allowance bands below that for costing less than £10,500, £7,000 & £3,500. Sales prices depressed in last two years because of global recession. Even so, the whole of this field cost between £1,500 to 6,000gns and are split evenly between the bottom two bands. Three of the six penalised 2lbs for costing more than 3,500 and a poor to moderate group on profile.

Stalls on the Stands' rail. Stiff wind on day as a direct Tailwind. This winner led on the Stands' rail throughout and never stopped. Those racing wider of the rail seem to stall and fade worse than a typical race. Check other races on straight course for any Rail and/or Prominent racing bias on the day.

Fallon rode MF as he had at Newmarket but presumably could have ridden Xyzzy having ridden most of the Stubbs' 2yos so far in 2011. Both fillies on a low weight 8-6 and Fallon put up 1lb overweight (but did make it for race 1 on the day).

Mousie another small trier for trainer (to add to Fratellino, Spartic & Dawn Lightning) to surprise with a win. Trainer seems to get best out of the the neat, better moving, ones he has of this type. Mousie green on debut and not getting home over 5f on fibresand STO. But, hard to believe she is better than an OR50s type despite the apparently comfortably win here. The rest of the race seemed to fall apart here to make her look better than she is. Only carrying 7-13 after the apprentice claim and he was able to give her a simple ride by cutting across to the rail and setting the pace there. Always looked balanced on the surface on a day where many runners got unbalance don the going. Also probably aided by running the rail while the others raced off the rail and then hung wider as they got unbalanced and hung away to various degrees. See whether another McCabe little one can surprise but work on basis this was her day and struggle from now on.

Marie's Fantasy raced off the rail on debut at Newmarket in a fillies' maiden which is often less strong and/or deep than the Race Standardisation crew want to believe. She never got competitive there after being hauled back to mid-div by Fallon (remember that this sort of move in a 5f race is usually taking out of the positions that can win the race). But, got unbalanced on the downhill run there and faded notably late on. Switched off the rail early having been cut-up by the winner then never running smoothly. Head held to the right and Fallon not looking comfortably (he does seem to have got into Spencer mode a lot where he makes riding a 2yo look like wrestling a snake). Unbalanced and hanging from before halfway and able to get past horses that raced wider later on but not able to make much ground on the winner. Then fading again late. A bit narrow bodied but believable to get to around OR70 but unable to put a race together at present and trying a different (more anonymous) jockey would help.

Xyzzy unable to make ground on seller winner Van Go Go on debut in a sprint but looked balanced on Polytrack. Had to be beustled along here to race 2R off the rail. Another to start hanging lef tand losing ground when the 2f out efforts started. All the horses that hung left lost ground notably as if racing wider was a negative beyond the impetus they were losing by hanging and getting unbalanced.

Paul Cole won the race in 2010 with an owner bred retainee at 20/1 and SP suggested a usable one. Indian Lizzy a little less build than MF but taller than the winner. Very green and losing ground because of that then another to start hanging left when asked to respond. A general feeling that the race 'fell apart' outside the winner who raced efficiently down the rail.

TCKid another small one and paid for making a effort to get to the leaders from a wider draw after a slower start. Limited and of no interest. A bit more interest in Masivo Man for a mostly reliable trainer who tends to front-load a usable one. He used to get FTO winners before he retired (for the first time) but debuts less tuned since he came back. This one a very slow start away from the rail then got back onto the group wide. But, yet another to not look that balanced and not really able to make an effort 2f out. Then hampered by the wave of left hangers and allowed to drift home. Worth a check STO.
