SUMMARY
£10k Bonus Race.

Medium Breeze on day as a crosswind from the left. Extensive watering in the last 7 days with between 36mm to 42mm applied to course. Race run in 0.39s slower than the MF race 7 days ago with this winner carrying 2lbs less. Both on official GF going (watered). Going Stick 8.4 at 12:15 on this day and 8.9 (faster going as higher reading) on April 19th.

Bonus race but with no Fahey (4th last year with a season NW) nor Hannon (won it last year with first rep for northern based MPk Racing). Go back to the - Bonus Races List - and check and it is on the list. Only major southern stable with a FTO rep is an unusual runner for Barry Hills with Brimstone Hill. His normal pattern to start the year is the odd very early runner, a small number of better debs around the Craven meeting (seems to use WDSR of late with the male's maiden at Newmarket gone), then a gap until around May 7-8th and start a few competitive 6f ones then another gap into June. This an oddity and you would presume chasing the £10k bonus. But debut wins with his May debuts rare and usually need a very good one. Market useful here in saying that the stable did not expect him to be competitive. Given the Hills' profile and liking for northern wins you would have expected him to be close to favourite if ready and good enough. Ran green and not looking like a Open Maiden winner candidate.

David Barron further confirming he is back on track after some years with lesser returns (2008 poorest). Usually starts with 2-3 competitive ones early and this his second win from three runners and the other has run prominently in both races but looks a short runner. Sweet Chilli seemed to improve notably from debut and win a little comfortably here in an ok time. Has the Ripon race she ran in FTO been a little under-rated? Able to force across from a wide draw to the rail and then control the race in classic PFCT fashion. Hug the rail around the bend and force others wide, wind the pace up a bit on the climb to 2f out then kick at 2f out. The two horse that tried to press the pace with her both fading notably with smaller filly NP having to work hard to get over from the widest stall.

Kool Henry of some interest having been free TP nad then run freely after getting a bump in early race. This got him to the leading line wide out through halfway. Then hung right wide on the uphill turn to the straight as the leader wound things up and soon out of the race and then fading. But, untypical type for sire, shorter and squatter with ok build, and a flashy dark one with some white feet. Trainer took over his stable mid-season 2010 so difficult to match up his pattern. But, none of his own debuts placed last year although the 3 later winners made the 4-5th range. Presume he is a front-loader of some sort and KH one to track.

Sabusa gave us more of the usual, never getting involved and never quite fading so ending up a poor third here with the winner going clear and bade fades from the 2R. King Bling able to get to a volunteer 2nd by being given a quiet ride off the pace (4L back at halfway) and hugging the rail. Able to pick through the faders and not much good who were running wider in the straight. Trainer's 3rd runner of the season and recorded the best rating of the three FTO and looked a solid type. Has a non-5f pedigree and seems an ok prospect to develop to be solid OR70+.

Safari Storm's debut 4th had been uncompetitive and he finished with a pair of seller fillies and not looking much different in substance and not going better than they were. A suspect favourite here on that and ran moderately. 2L+ off the lead at halfway in Lane 1 and unable to match the winner's effort and fading before Sabusa.
