Stalls Stands' Rail. GF produced by watering. 7mm applied since racing at the course yesterday. Going Stick 8.7, 8.5 at the April 16th meeting and 7.7 at the Brocklesday day. Stronger wind on the day as a direct Tailwind. Solid but usable pace which seemed to produce a good test of the relative abilities of the the horses. Bannock breaking best and setting the pace in Lane 2 with 2nd-4th at halfway spread around him within a Neck to 1L+. Springleaf in the leading line early bu 2L back on the rail. As in the Brocklesby Adranian encoraged along with increasing vigour from early on and not looking like a 5f horse at all. Bannock wound the pace from halfway and then made the standard 2f out effort. This took him and FTOpt clear to battle the race out. Misty Conquest outpaced by leading pair but clear of the others. Springleaf & JJ Leary under pressure as soon as the pace lifted at halfway and outpaced by the 2f out kick and then both fading. This allowed Adranian to haul himself past them by plugging on at what seems to be his top pace some way behind the first 3. FTOpt the second winner to come from the Newcastle maiden race he made his debut in. Saw the race out fully and connections felt he would need further. Bannock smaller than the winner but athletic and fizzy in the prelims. Best debut by trainer's runners to date which may be improving. Some sort of 70+. MC seemed to run her race and helps to tag the level of the Windsor race she started in which has been over-rated by some. |
