SUMMARY
Going FGF but with the last 4 furlongs given as GFF with the Going Stick at 9.4. Watering as 10mm whole course 28-29th and 5mm on 'Straight' (last 4f or whole 8f?) on 30th April. Stalls far side with rail out from start until 2F out. Strong Wind as a Tailwind.

Very Fast conditions and the 6f Course record broken in the first race by 3yo maidens (perhaps OR80s types) in the first race of the day (13:50). Then the 7f track record broken in the second race by good quality 3yo handicappers (OR80s into 90s).

This a fast time and in the range normally run by Group class 2yos. This field not close to that quality to highlight how fast the conditions on the day were. Only faster time since the start of 2004 was 59.3s run by Ajigolo on very firm going in mid-May 2005. He proved a useful sprinter 2yo in Britain and won a (soft) German Group 2. Times between 60s to 61.5s in the same period made up of Hunter Street (60.21s, 2yo Gp wnr), Gilded (60.35s, Queen Mary wnr), Dinkum Diamond (60.66s, Lstd wnr, placed Gp2), Swan Wings (unp in Gp races), Enticing (61.07s, Gp3 wnr), Approve (61.46s, Gp2 winner).

En Ete set a solid pace down the rail and allowed to run a little freely by the A7. More than 1.5L clear at halfway. Rail out until the 2F pole then a right angle cutaway to the normal rail position. EE veered RH when reaching the cutaway. Might have been stalling anyway but never got going again and fading into the last 1f. Similar size to others and well prepared.

CF taller, leggier & a touch narrow. But, able to follow the pace comfortably enough and pick up off it again. Presumably will stay further but OR70s.

Dijarvo smaller but neatly made and athletic. Ready LM sprinter. Produced similar effort to the winner, having got the 1L+ she was behind at halfway by creeping forward before 2f out kick point, and they duelled to the line.

Hannon has won the race 5 times in the last 12 years but always with Previous winners and not with FTOs. This field without a previous winner from him and a Channon rep. Hoiles picked up the FTO angle for Esentepe and how the RPost pundit had blindly used the 5 wins without qualification. Then, as usual, backed off and apologised for doubting people who have more knowledge than he does. Stand up for your opinions, man. Even on TV pictures Esentepe clearly too green and underdone in fitness terms. Lost 3L at the start and in fast conditions with the leaders not stopping had an impossible task. How can anything (not better Group class) run down horses running 59.93s off a usable pace with a gale behind them. Solid enough run to almost match the leading pair's effort inside the last 2f (not gaining but not losing ground) until the typical last 0.5f fade for a Hannon rep that the fitness would have said was likely (Hannon's work-watching 'Dial' in action).
