SUMMARY
Median Auction with Sire Median limited to maximum of £16k.
Note that the Draw Numbering has now Changed on RH Courses. Stalls on Stands' Rail here and Number Changes means that Stall 1 now in Centre track with Draw 8 next to the rail.
Strong, mostly Tailwind, from the left. Leaders raced Stands' Side until rolling to mid-track in last 1f (with the wind)

Race has produced good class horses over the years including Group winners Art Connoisseur and Helvellyn while Mac Love could only finish 3rd in 2003. In 2009 the useful dual winners Archers Road and Here Now And Why (the better very early Kevin Ryan runner) pulled clear from a solid group of later winners. In third was the David Evans trained Jack My Boy who went on to win three times and got rated above OR80.
Which provides a useful Model for this year's edition. On Profile it looked like a moderate quality race lacking the better class reps from major stables (like Michael Bell, for e.g.). Instead, a typical Evans runner supported by a lot of cheap ones and owner breds from smaller stables. The result of the race suggests that is what we got in reality. The biggest horse - JWH able to run clear despite being green and putting his head up. Jockey Callan got him organised in the last half furlong and he powered away, relatively from the Garbage. Presume he is above OR70 and the trainer will squeeze further development out of him.

No interest in those behind but a few notes. FSS Dark Angel has started with a few moderate ones and Dawn Lightning a volunteer second by being competent and willing. But, small and limited and not on to follow. Perhaps seller winner class and might win a poor early non-seller but not one to follow.

Copper Falls travelled like the best or second-best horse for 2-3f before fading quickly. But, her trainer has a very bad record with 2yos and this type just never win at 2yo for him. He has won a single 2yo race (which Fallon managed to wrestle over the line) from 42 individual horses since 2001. A number have shown some promise but the trainer appears to have no idea how to channel that promise. Some of those who show promise win over longer distances at 3yo+ and makes the 2yo career look even more incomprehensible. Lucky Punt got rated over OR90 at 3yo over 12f+ and Pullyourfingerout has been winning juvenile Hurdles over the last winter as examples. So, some promise from the horse but would have to train herself to win something at 2yo.

Support in the morning (14/1 to 7/1) and then more on-course for DW. Hard to see in the performance or her size what that was about despite this being a soft race (JWH excepted).

Trainer Gay Kelleway has developed a method of starting her best early filly at the start of season as her first runner in 2008. Two ran well in tough maidens at Newmarket before winning STO and Listed winner Primo Lady won FTO at Lingfield in 2010. Which means her earliest, or early, runner is of interest as it should be a competitive one. Which meant Waybuloo was of some interest and Hanagan riding perhaps an indicator. Too green tocompete and ran poorly. Perhaps she isn't the competitive early one with the trainer having declared Gabrial's Girl for an earlier race but she was an NR (for not having eaten up on the morning of the race). Wirth tracking GGirl when she turns up again.
