SUMMARY
GF going with 'Watering' but no details given. Going Stick at 8.9 having been 9.0 for last week's meeting. Stiff breeze as a half Tailwind from the Left.

Hannon on his website the day before the race = "We run a couple of nice Acclamation colts (Crown Dependency and Airborne Again) in the two-year-old race down there, both of whom have done everything right at home, but our youngsters have been needing their first race so we will watch with interest".

Bryan Meehan's website the day before the race = "..ran fast on his debut before tiring in a very strong Newbury maiden. From a speedy and classy family - his siblings include Group 1 winning sprinter Carmine Lake - he will know more about it this time.".

Trainer Hannon clearly likes GDWD and targets winning races there. He seems to start better types there often. Look at the last 3 seasons and backing all his debut runners at the track would have produced a profit in each year. With one oddity (16/1 accidental winner in a very poor race) if you order the debuts by SP then the ones at 4/1 and under will tend to produce the winners and placers and 8/1+ the uncompetitive ones. Crown Dependency was given an educational ride by Hughes who clearly wanted to get him to settle. Holding him back early and dropping in. In some cases that will lose the race but CDep just too good here. Cruised up behind the others in the last 2f with Hughes able to sit still and delay his effort in a manner reminiscent of many 2010 rides. Went clear comfortably and clearly a better type who is one to take seriously at higher level. Look at the horses the trainer has run in the early 6f race over recent years and they are a strong set = Dr Green in 2010, 2009 Sir Parky (Gp3 winner) & Fine Sight, 2008 with Tishtar. That set the only 6f debuts before the Mid-May Newbury maiden where he starts the very best he has (Canford Cliffs & Strong Suit in 2009-10 for example).

Ewell Place supported and stood up the expectation to be Open Maiden class but comfortably beaten by the winner.

Airborne Again the Hannon second string and not look fit enough nor mentally ready in the prelims. But, ran differently and always porminent on the rail and a Solid effort later on. Enough substance to believe he is the OR80+ backup to the Hannon better one in CD.

Drummoyne a short, lengthy but heavily type and believable as OR80+. Fizzy on debut and kept away from the other horses AP. Fizzy AP here with the other horses. Settled the pace after making an effort to get to the lead but an ordinary effort at 2f and not seeing the 6f out strongly. Perhaps needs to settle down but should be able to rate higher.

Arabian Falcon running at a time over 5-6f which suggests he might be surplus stock and/or a nursery development type. Too green here and a slow start. Still a question over what he is but not one to support in Open Maidens on what he has shown and see hos the Market goes 3TO. Dovils Date a Millman debut over further than 6f which has been a poor source of season winners in recent seasons. Mignt be OR65-70 on looks and a nursery type. Trainer has shown examples of the S-3TO blossoming off poor debuts this year. Blank Czech a first runner of season for the trainer at a typical time. Debuts rarely competitive unless for K Abdulla and the SP here surprising. Using a blanket for stalls entry and a slow start. Never put into the race after that. The earlier runners tends to be the competitive ones over 6f and the lack of any season winners in the early debuts in 2010 a sign they didn.t have any of the right quality at all. Mixed messages from this debut but uninformative overall.
