SUMMARY
Going watered to produce GGS. 5mm rain overnight and 3mm of showers on the morning. Stalls Stands' side. Stiff breeze on the day, mostly as a Tailwind slightly from the left. Later Conditions race won by OR107 rated 4yo in 72.33s carrying 3lbs less.

Brian Meehan on his website before the race = "Nice horse who will need the run but has been working very well at home." . Is his use of the word 'very' actually of some significance given the good run by Ballesteros (on the day of the golfer's death).

Stiff to Strong pace on rain softened ground had the field well stretched out and several horses looking to be going well in the lead before fading notably and under-rating relative to the promise they appeared to show. Banksy 1.5L clear of the 2nd & 3rd though at halfway with ECross already being outpaced and dropping back. abroor 4L back and Special Boy around 5L back and green. Pint Size at 6L back and already being left behind and the rest spread over 8-15L.

Mabroor another in a batch of better debuts by the trainer. Green through mid-race and took time to pick up but going on well at the finish and will obviously stay further and a solid prospect. Trainer's earliest 6f debuts usually at least Open Maiden class and can include some good ones. Quality of earliest 6f debuts 2009-10 has been above average overall.

Brocklebank the apparent second string but bigger than Fiction Or Fact and more knowing despite the other one having been entered for 5f in earlier season. Able to attend the pace until it upped after halfway and then got dropped a little. But, plugged on well to get back to the faders and harry the winner until just before the line. Believabke as the better of his trainer's pair and the size to be real OR75+.

Trainer Meehan's FTOs that show up well in strong maidens often prove to be Listed+ class. Hard to be definite about the overall quality here but ran better than the final position. Attended the pace comfortably and picked up better than the first two home to engage the leader 2f out. Looked like the winner towards 1f out with a 1L lead and the others under pressure but then stalled and faded. Overall seems one to take a positive view of as OR84+

Trainer Gosden's debut often moderate to poor because of inexperience this early. His early 6f starters often include good, or very good, ones but also some non-winners. The debut runners in this maiden in 2009-10 have been moderate to average with 1 non-winners, and OR60 nuresery winner over 8f and a borderling Open Maiden win. But, Banksy a different set-up as a breeze up purchase in March so some of the prep already done for him. Took off in the lead here and set the strong pace. Going ok for 4f and had everything else under pressure other than Ballesteros. But faded badly because of going too hard and walking in the last 1f. Bulky, slightly compact type of sire. Ought to be solid OR75+ if not much higher and perhaps worth going back to 5f.

Mild promise from Fiction Or Fact in a response to get out of the stragglers into the Gap from 4th. Special Boy too green to compete and Suroor's earlier 6 runners often just ordinary maiden winner types. Didn't look any better than that model on what he showed. Trainer seems to start getting FTO winners after Royal Ascot and the first batch of better types to include proper FTO wins (on better ability rather than accidents in soft races like Sweet Sonnet) probably in last week of June. Presume Lexi's Prince is better than he showed and redirected here from a Lily Agnes entry. Never travelling here so see how he goes STO on better gong. No interest int he others.
