Watering to produce GF. 16-20mm applied Tue-Wed and the same amount Thu-Fri. 2mm of rain overnight and 3mm on morning of meeting. Going stick at 8.0 at Noon. Stiff breeze as a Half Headwind in the 6f Chute and Quarter headwead in the Straight, from the right. [Update May 11th - Race Rating downgraded by 5 points. Horse Pages updated.] COfR able to set a usable pace and produce enough of an effort to win. But, travelling less well than DDream towards the final furlong and only getting away from that one when he faded in the last 0.5f. COfR below his best level in a soft race. DDream travelled like the best horse for 5f but not really finding the forward effort in the last 1f the jockey might have expected and then fading 0.5f out (absolutely typical for Hannon debuts this year which have reverted to normal after the 2010 early season blitz). By Hawk Wing so the pundits will no doubt have his last 1f down to his sire producing soft ones who put their head in the air. Hannons have not had trouble in getting the best out of those by the sire so shoud improve ok and fulfil the potential. Proximity of FTSCom drags the form down and a smaller and limited one. Manderston another poor run in a period when the stable's 2yos are doing well. But, a sign that many of the early poor runs probably as much due to moderate ones as being underdone. Grand Gold green and got 5L back but plugged on towards the leaders late on. Given how green he was he also drags the form level down finishing so close. Not Open Maiden class and a lesser debut for the connections. Interesting to compare the Gallops of Grand Gold (as a lesser debut) to those of Represent (who was a win attempt debut by a better one). Grand Gold wallows around in the Gallops finishing in the bunch at best and clearly not much expected of him. Seems to works with lesser types or ones further back in the Gallop develpment. A win attempt like Represent had been working with better horses and being asked to go to the front late on with the older lead horse easing off. Presumably so the horse doesn't Freeze when leading in the race. In her final gallop Represent worked with 2 x 3yo fillies - Juvenile Group winner Majestic Dubawi who seems not to be going well, Listed placed juvenile The Thrill Is Gone as the reliable lead horse & Majestic Rose who has already won FTO as a 2yo this year. MRose either not being prepped for a race and just going through the motions or not going that well in recent gallops. Well behind Represent. |
