For horses that cost £16k or less at the sales. GGF produced by watering & no details given. Rail out by 2 metres from 4.5f out to 2f out adding 6 yards to race distance. Going stick 8.1 having been 8.9 on April 28th (Red Hearts). Showers and a band of rain over previous 2 days after a long dry spell, warmest April on record, etc. Medium breeze as a mostly headwind in the straight and three-quarter headwind from the left on the hill before the bend and downhill stretch. Moderate race and the winner a smaller limited filly. Perhaps low OR60s in the season view. Won here by being the most professional and a straightforward trier. Not going as well as the leader 2f out and already working but able to sit prominently, stay balanced and get the best out of herself to the line. First runner for a new trainer so a positive for him to produce a ready horse and place it in the right races. In interview afterwards though he did note that the horse had been easy to train and that was the reputation she came with from the person who had looked after before Palmer got her. R'ripple lost on debut and trainer Channon said in interview on the morning of the race that that had puzzled him because he thought she was alright (no numbers, as ever, just vague phrases that might mean anything from OR60-95). Picked her out from his raft of runners on the day as value. This a moderate race but ran better here. A bit more size than the winner and closing on her to the line for HnH riding. A bit green at 2f and taking time to get going and organised (unlike the winner by comparison). Can develop further for nous and perhaps 6f (going on ok at the uphill end of this 5.3f). Shere Khan a debut runner for Hannon and Hughes here to ride (as he has the dam & for the owner) before going to Windsor. SP said she should be an OR80+ one and placed to win FTO. But, a good demonstration of why taking very short prices about Hannon debuts a poor strategy overall. Too green at the start to get going and in an impossible position after 0.5f. Average pace meant she got back to the group Downhill and some chance 2f out if she picked up well. But got stuck in behind IDOG and switched to centre track, then hung left down the hill followed by some wallowing around. Typically fading the last 0.5f for Hannon and had a tough job trying to run down horses going forward off a usable pace anyway. The type to improve notably STO when organised. Multi Blessing ran better than the final placing and might be capable of winning over 5f in the OR60s. Sire has produce some zippy ones but no wins and some lively attitudes. The trainer can produce some sweaty wired ones FTO and that produced an uncontrollable horse on debut (for Neil Callan). Apprentice here and clearly the plan was a controlled run. Got to the lead comfortably and mostly ran under control in the lead. Going better than the winner 2f out and only finally headed properly by her at the 1f mark depite MB being unbalanced on the hill next to the rail at various points in the last 2f. Late fade makes his run look worse. Bigger and stronger than the winner and some natural pace but the trainer a negative. If this had been a 5f race (not 5.3f) and with a non-uphill finish he would have been within 1-2L of winning. IDOG a Type 2 winkworth debut with Jim Crowley absent. Small and limited. Ran professionally but blown away late on. Sea Poet a small and compact seller 5f type at best and with no scope. Not running to his level at present. |
