SUMMARY
Field raced stands' side strip and, aside from some later race hanging, within a fairly tight strip on 4-6 lanes from it at most. A good thing because other races suggested that being closer to the rail some sort of advantage and this field keeping together minimises any of that effect. A solid pace which appeared to wind up from before halfway and put enough pressure on those not travelling comfortably at it to break them and fold them back into the field.

The Halfway positions to final placings tell a lot of that story with the two who survived racing close to the pace the pair on STO runs. HSC travelling best and Redair niggled along before halfway and strggling witht he pace again. She had shown the same at Kempton when being niggled along to try to keep Bubbly Ballerina within striking distance around the bend before seeing that one off with a strong finish. Here, you might have expected her to fade given how she was being busled along relatively early in the race but she again kept responding to the line. Along with a tigerish attitude this meant that she and her jockey hadn't given up on overhauling HSC right to the line.

Bill Turner usually brings close to his best 2yo to the Brocklesby (this was he fifth win to go win many places) which made HSC seem an odd choice to bring here after his lacklustre run behind Redair at Kempton. But he was supported like a solid one there and fulfilled the trainer's opinion of him here. The jockey said that at Kempton the horse had been slowly away (the trainer said the horse had been looking to the side when the stalls opened there) and then had been Lazy when he had asked him to get going. With the Kempton race featuring a fast pace around a tight bend that meant he had got detached behind the pacemaker Redair had had to work hard to hang on to. The jockey then said HSC had been different here and he had to settle him down a bit in the front line rather than bully him into getting going.

The solid pace meant that the under-prepared and over-matched ones in the front line faded and the Second Rank also folded back. The 3rd-6th finishers made up of the solid JTLollipop (around 2.5L off the lead at halfway and fading back inside the last 0.5f+). TGDCom who was held up in midfield around 4L back at halfway plus the two green and slowest starters (CS & Triggerlo) who had been niggled and driven along as the last pair at halfway. They ran separate paths to make progress in later race with jockey Spencer (another of those upright posture, over-complicating, over-reacting rides that make him too visible and draw comment that he seems to produce) taking CS wide of the field. He made good progress there and in physical terms confirmed his trainer's positive view of him. A strong type with a real future. Jockey Hitchcott a much more anonymous rider (a good thing) and picked a path through the stallers and faders closer to the rail on Triggerlo.

At first look you would put the Changeover Point somewhere around 5th-6th although Triggerlo ought to be ok for OR75 when he wises up. The Garbage Gap might be just behind that depending upon your view of BM & JH. Unlike some of the bigger fields for this not an obviously long tail of Garbage at the back and some candidates in the 6th-12th finishers to be better than the Bin Bag tag. BM & JH different physical types and got to their final positions in different ways. JH a small, compact sprinter type but with some depth. Jockey gave him a hard time on the way TP and in the race as if his attitude is suspect or he needs to grow up. Able to attend the pace ok and make a small effort 2f out although outpaced by the better ones. Then fading notably in the last 1f and finishing the wrong side of a big gap back from 7th. BM a taller, leggier type with a mixed pedigree of speed on dam's side but the FSS not obvious to get 5f types. Able to get to midfield ok despite being hampered and then took time to get going inside the last 2f and hampered again 1f out. But responded and plugging on ok in the last 0.5f to be on the tails of the 3rd-6th group who were slowly closing up on the leading pair and the right side of the big gap back to the faders.
