Stiff to Strong wind on Day as a half headwind from the left in the Back Straight, mostly a headwind around the bend and a half Tailwind from the right in the Home Straight. For fillies that cost £18k or under at the sales. Moderate form and Xyzzy small and lightly made but in top condition and a real trier. An OR50s type in the full view and presume end up in sellers or claimers. Also a positive for the Stubbs who have now run 3 x 2yos (2k, 6k & 4k) and have got wins with 2 of them and Latte (the cheapest) has the potential to win but disappointing LTO. Typical for them to find all the possible ways to get wins and produce usable cheap ones and develop them with racing. Meanwhile the Runer 2yos are continuing to run moderately. LOLine showed some zip in the straight on debut but did not stay 5f. Pressed by others at Ripon whe faded early and stayed even less distance. In ok condition here and a better physical type than Xyzzy but ran freely and another early fade by a Turner 2yo. Gone by 2f out and walking home. Placed horses fit with the moderate level BUT an interesting run by Blodwen Abbey Trainer James Unett has few horses and had his first 2yo winner since 2003 in 2010 with a FTO winner at WTON with his first runner of the season. She won at 20/1 and his first runner here in 2011 would have won FTO if she had run straight in the last 2f. Bigger and better built than Xyzzy and knowing enough to sit in 4th just behind the pace. Moving up to go past the leader but then started hanging right into centre track. Still able to close back on Xyzzy once hauled back and a better type than the winner. Usable OR60s and could get rated low OR70s. Economic Crisis hinted at being the (perhaps THE) only 2yo that Alan Berry has in 2011 that might be usable (think Crimson Knot in 2010) on debut and similar here. Got behind through overall stupidity but then able to mount an effort around the bend. Can rate higher. Front of the race moderate quality and a gap back from the first two so no real interest in those behind. |
