SUMMARY
Stalls in Centre track. GFG produced by watering with 3mm applied Thursday and similar amount Friday am if not rain overnight. Going Stick 7.5 on Thus pm (Check for UPDATE) and note says the Home Straight has been 'earthquaked' which apparently slighty distorts (or changes correctly?) the Going Stick reading. Medium breeze as a quarter headwind from the left. Stalls Centre and field raced Centre until the 2nd & 3rd through halfway started hanging left before 2f out under pressure.

Bill Stubbs interviewed in Parade Ring prior to the race and said he would be disapponted if Forevertheoptimist was beaten. Trading at around 2.34 on Betfair and that point and 2nd fav but dropped to 2.06 quickly before going odds-on. Mr Stubbs' said the plan was to go to Newbury with the horse for the Listed Rose Bowl Stakes (which they won recently with Saxford). He said Royal Ascot was not part of their plans and they tried to get wins which would get the horse rated highly enough to be sold on to Hong Kong. Not worrying about 3yos etc. but buying cheap horses to develop precocious winners to sell on for a good profit. In the race FTOp niggled along soon after halfway and then stopped very quickly and eased and walked home. Jockey Mulrennan said afterwards he knew he wasn't going to win after 100yds because the horse was not travelling. Unable to explain it and hoped the cause of the problem was found.

Travis County a cheap purchase at the March Kempton breeze up sales and the depressed market seems to mean some solid bargains around. Smaller type but well made and strongly built. Not better class but a solid winner and should rate OR70+. 10 minutes after this the maiden at Hamilton was won in quite impressive style by another Kempton breeze buy who cost a lot more than Travis County but still only £46k for a finished article and tested before the sale. Prices are clearly well down on 2002-8 levels,
