SUMMARY
FGF going with Going Stick 9.4 reading. 24mm of rain since last Meeting on May 3rd. Stalls Centre track. Strong breeze as a mostly Headwind (slightly from the left).

Peculiar race to get a handle one but presumably the HEADWIND very strong and played a big part. One sign perhaps the hanging right of horses racing away from the far rail (rail provide some sort of cover from the wind?). Another sign the slow time despite the Firmer going and races slower in all races. This time slower than any 2yo race at the distance in 2009-10 by 1 whole second. Pace not look strong and whole field within four lengths of the lead at Halfway. PJ 2.5L back and under the rail while the free running trio of CK, Jawim & LAM together and racing off the rail. Race played out in an odd way with the three leaders running wider fading very early and getting unusually tired, This left the winner with the job of overhauling Xinbama (who raced prominently and faded 0.5f out) and making a better effort than OTG who was still green and took time to get going and switched wider an took time to find a gap while PJ wandered through a wide open gap near the rail. PJ typically well prepared and able to outlast the others while not really finishing the race off himself.

Percy Jackson an example of another regular feature of the 2yo season. Denis Coakley trains ina 20-box stable and his selling point seems to be that each horse then gets individual attention. For a number of years the debuts were always fit and competent and he front-loads competitive ones. This meant he often got long SP places with his earliest runners. This would have been the third year in a row that his first runner of the season won FTO at Bath if the jockey on Qalahari had not gone all 'Ajtebi' in 2008. But, the Market is wising up and his FTO winners last year was 15/2 and PL seemed to open around that level the previous evening and got shorter and shorter till being back to 2/1 favourite. Smaller type but neat (probably what his smaller FSS will gives us) but a bit leggy and uses that range well. Good condition an throughly ready for the day. As the picture on the trainers', pretty good, website showed. Not left with much to beat here and outstaying Xinbama does not amount to much. Perhaps not much scope.

OTG still green and taking time to respond. Head up and seemed to be still plugging on late in the race. Lacking pace but some scope to develop.

Armiger given a quiet time and made ground up the rail for minimal asking utnil eased. Sire a negative but seems the deeper and bulkier type so probably has the strength to be usable. Timing of debut suggests the trainer thinks he can compete in the OR65-72 range. Check STO.

CKing has semed to be finishing his races off the last twice and back with a TT here. Problem seemed to be that he was to fired up and fresh. Fizzy AP and ran too freely in early race. Perhaps hung off the rail in response to the jockey trying to hold him up. Fading and rolling around by 1f out so did not run his race.

LAM slightly different in that he has not appeared to stay a flat 5f in his two races and fading to the line in both of them. Stepping him up to 5.7f on an uphill track seemed like a poor move, Add in the Headwind effect and him running a little freely to the average pace (not as much as CK) and he was always a candidate for an early fade. Needs to develop a bit and a 5f where he can use his kick against lesser types and hang on.

Trainer Haggas seems to start mostly limited ones in May if you exclude the obviously good ones at better tracks. The small number of other debuts seem to be Surplus Stock types and the majority do not win and some end up in sellers. Faraway an unusually cheap one for an Arab owner and green and NPIR here. Presume he is being set up for nurseries or a lower level auction race.
