SUMMARY
Strong breeze as a Crosswind from the right in the Back Straight, Mostly a Headwind around the bend and a Crosswind from the left in the Home Straight.

Class 6 and low level Auction for horses sold for £12k or less. Top three males on toweight and others allowed 2-6lbs. Two fillies allowed 2lbs and 6lbs and none of topweight.

Race with three horses in named in this year's '2yos of 2011' book as their trainer's 'Bargain Buy'. Norse Gold with Elsworth saying "..might be more precocious than you'd expect because he does look that way and the sire won FTO at 2yo [ for Elsworth in July beating Phoenix Reach] so I might get on with him soon." Worth noting that Elsworh has bought the dam twice, as a yearling and then buying her back as a 10yo broodmare. She goes back to the sire High Line pedigree and a sire the trainer has a soft spot for having been the sire of Heighlin whom the trainer cites as being responsible for getting his training career going. He then sent her to Jim Smith's Littleton Stud sire Norse Gold (for whom he trained Norse Gold, Persian Punch etc..) and whom is a director of Salisbury where Norse Gold won FTO. All intricately entwined. Trainer tends to front-load competitive ones and does get FTO winners. BUT, not usually as a pair and the debut wins come with the high class ones in later season. How much of this win was preparation and how much ability a good question. A moderate race behind hime with Latte wallowing around and is he a well prepared OR78 horse looking good running away from slow seller types? Medium size but athletic an using himself well. See how he develops but leaning towards him being an OR70s type made to look better here by running away from moderate filly stalling (ILizzy) and a slightly better one who has looked a slow type lacking a kick and seems likely to keep on going up in trip (Rookn..etc)

The Stubbs in the book and named Latte saying "... shows plenty of ability. Big, strong horse, well built and a proper 2yo. He definitely wants 6f but has the speed to win at 5f." A positive in Paddock Review to support the view and some late support here to get to favourite. But, the FSS Multiplex seems to be turning out horses with some zip for a cheap price but not the most straightforward. Latte has failed to run a competent race in the first 2 runs and this one very similar to his last effort. In both races he has run freely for parts of the the first 2f before settling down. Here this was made worse by having to hold the horse meaning the jockey unable to take time to drop the horse in. Ended up running 2 wide and a little freely. Despite that again seemed to be travelling ok to 2f out and the jockey able to be sitting still and seemed likely to be able to get by the two fillies in front of him if he picked up averagely. But, again, nothing much happened when asked for his effort and, unlike RDCR, the firm ground not an excuse. Tiring in the last 1f and again showing a pounding and climbing action. Again leaving the impression that there is more there if he runs a competent race and picks up. The other view would be that the weak pick-up in the last 2f is all he can do. Still enough evidence to think he can do better and below his real level here. Jockey and trainer's daughter seemed unconcerned after the race. One to track for improving down the line somewhere. Has done enough to get handicapped and shouldn't get more than OR60s so interesting to see whether he runs before the nurseries start in early June of the Stubbs take him away and get the bonnet open to do some reworking.

Haggas runs a few in May and they tend to be a mix of duff ones & competitive ones capable of winning. But, strong debuts aside from very useful ones are very unlikely. Quote about this horse as his 'Bargain Buy' (although another retained by a trainer breeder like NGold with Charles Cyzer the breeder and owner here) = "..big horse with a dipped back, he has plenty of strength and he should make a 2yo." Ryan Moore riding got the Market too interested on debut which was typically uncompetitive. Smaller if well built and, although not hard ridden, just slowly getting to the faders. If he weren't with a reliable trainer and without the 'Bargain Buy' tag you wouldn't be looking to follow him so probably one to let see how he goes. The 'Ryan Moore' angle might be misleading since Charles Cyzer used to train near Moore's father and some of his horses went to be trained by Gary Moore when he retired. Perhaps Cyzer has known Ryan since he was a puppy and Moore was just being respectful to a family friend. Yes, that Ryan.

FTSCom form at WWCK is misleading to read at face value because it was a slow race and he finished with horses he should not have done on Review. He also rolled around in ugly manner in the last 1f. Similar here but starting earlier and the jockey driving him early and using the whip early for just ordinary response. Going like a horse feeling something or just mentally finding this racing lark, with bigger horses all around him, a bit too much at present.
