GGS from GSG two days prior. No rain in previous 7 days until 0.2mm overnight. Going Stick reading from 06:45am. Light Westerly Wind = Half Headwind From Right. Classic Pointless Punditry stuff from Cooper & Weaver before the Race. "Flashlight's form towers over the others..." says Cooper. When Mar Mar is rated 2lbs higher by the BHA and is receiving 5lbs. You could argue about whether Future Reference is much behind Flashlight although he has no OR yet. Cooper just going with what the Market says and tipping the favourite without a clue about what the 'form' acutally amounts to and blind to the horses walking around him as he stands in the Paddock. Weaver hints at perhaps having seen the horses and suggests Mar Mar is a taking type. Which he is and better than the other Godolphin runner despite wearing the second colours and having Buick riding while Barzalona rides FR. Then Weaver spoils it by saying Mar Mar "had disappointed last time..." and instead he starts tipping others. Classic bit of 5th of 5 after two second places must be worse form. You could make a strong case that Mar Mar ran his best race when finishing 5th in a fast run Nursery at Kempton. Meanwhile, leaving these two talking garbage to each other and the rest of the racing world, the Market did seem to grasp that Mar Mar was the better of the Godolphin pair and another 'Second String' win to end the season. But still miles out in it's relative assessment of the abilities of Flashlight and easy winner Mar Mar. |
