SUMMARY
Eventually GF from FGF after rain during the day as 7mm. FGF from GGF 2 days prior but raining on the morning of the meeting. Going Stick reading from 16:00.

Medium NE Wind developing by evening = Half Tailwind from the Right.

Fascinating race in 'Market' terms and the childish, and completely obsessive, belief in the Power of the Market by Pundits. Trainer Dods has already had a 16/1 FTO winner this season with the Biggest filly in the field (Lucies Diamond). He is long proven as someone who gets his 2yos fit enough to finish a race off on debut. After that earlier win the interview started with some question about the win being a 'surprise' because it was 16/1. Trainer Dods responded that day at Ripon that the win was no surprise to him because he knew LD was good. He was surprised by her being 16/1. This is a trainer who is regularly profitable to follow with debuts and has had two FTO 100/1 winners over the years. In the past decade the 'Market' has learnt close to nothing about Dods. To reiterate, there is NO worthwhile link between the quality of his debut runners and the SPs they go off at.

And here we go again. Elle Wood is the most expensive in the field with a long tail of cheap ones in. She is also the biggest by some by some way and a likeable type. If she turned up in this field with exactly the same profile but trained by one of a range of Southern stables what SP would she have been? 6/1 perhaps if there was some real info that she was limited. A bit green but cruises along in 2R and then finds a good finish to pick up the leading pair.

More of the same in the post race interview, with jockey Mulrennan this time who rides a lot of work for Dods and whom the trainer had cited in the Ripon interview of a senior jockey he likes to get in to his yard to ride work on the promising ones. That must have been a 'nice surprise' the interviewer uses has his opening gambit. Mulrennan as unphased as Dods had been and said it was no surprise to him. He had ridden her at home and knew she was useful because she worked "real good". She was a bit raw and still learning but had a lot of natural abilty and should go on improving. He really did think she could be 'anything' and felt she won comfortably. Which seemd like fair comment looking at her. One to follow.

Meanwhile the Market was punting away at another 3 for no obvious purpose in the race. The childishly obsessive Pundits never acknowledge these demonstrations of the lack of information in driving the Market, of course. Meanwhile, trainer Fahey, who is regularly profitable to follow and gets FTO wins at all sorts of SPs, probably thought he had the winner as Boom And Bloom took it up until comfortably reeled in by the Big Girl at the end. Surely the Fahey yard 'know the time of day' with all their 2yos but the Market still cannot get it right. A solid debut and above Open Maiden class.

Faithfilly below OR75 probably and the sort of 'placer' that struggles to win a maiden because her ability level means she is vulnerable to anything Open Maiden level or a little better that can run competently FTO. Which seems exactly what happened here. Beaten by two solid debuts from stables that are long proven at getting competent FTOs. Faithfilly ran very well and gives a good 'shape' to the result to judge those around her. It also helps to confirm the view of the front of the NWBY auction race she ran in 6 days ago.

Faithfilly one side or other of the Changeover Point and the two fillies in 4-5th believable as usable OR60s to confirm the view of the Pace being enough to sort the fillies by ability mostly. Both Ana Emaratiya & Sandy's Row running green at times and AE particuarly clueless and left the impression she still has more to show and competitive to win a weaker northern maiden. SR less likely and more a nursery type. Into the Garbage then with Princess In Exile running too freely but seeming to confirm herself as an early type lacking scope. Probably better going back to 5f. Sojoum a quation mark. Smaller and not neatly made but with some build positive. Looked in excellent condition and should have run better. The excuse for the poor response later in the race would presumably be her hanging left. Below Open Maiden level on what she has shown but clearly the one behind the GGap who ought to be a bit further forward at the finish.

Anne Duffield's blog the Day after the race = "Charlamagne Diva [sic] enjoyed her first day at the sports yesterday at Newcastle and showed us that despite a pedigree suggesting otherwise, she does in fact posses speed she probably isn’t entitled to have. She has shown speed at home, but running over six, especially with her family, is often the right thing to do first time out, it enables a horse who is having its first ever racecourse experience to get involved in the race rather than to simply see the backsides of the more experienced runners. Getting them in the mix is the most important thing at this stage, otherwise they learn nothing and, just as importantly, neither do connections. The filly clearly didnt stay, showing a lot of early pace and running too freely to be able to give her any chance of staying a trip out. She returned home and dived into her feed which is a great sign. "
