£10k Bonus Race. GGF from GFF 2 days Prior after 13mm of rain on Wed and 6mm on Thu. Going Stick reading from 07:00am = [Any Update nearer to the Meeting start with a dry day Forecast?]. Light to Medium NE Wind = Quarter Tailwind from the Right. Stalls Centre and field raced centre but with a wide spread. Average pace but seemed to spread the field out by ability at the finish but with a couple of caveats. If you took the view that racing Far Side of centre track was a disadvantage in the maiden that Master Of War ran in here FTO then his strong run here would be no surprise. He made a slow start and was the only one to produce a strong effort on that side of the track. In ths race he ran Stands' Side of Centre tracks and ran competently. Which meant he pulled cleared looking up to competing to win at Conditions level and OR83+. But, the two horses that chased him home in the places were also running Stands Side so the Visual impression the race left at the finish was that there was a conveyor belt going forward for the first three home and those on the Centre to Far Side were fighting on going the other way and some early fades. Deauville Prince Drawn low but crossed behind the field to get to the Stands Side by jockey Kingscote and you wonder why? Does he feel it is a better strip? A solid looking finish from Deauville Prince and a solid bigger type to add to the feeling his effort was 'real' rather than just being on the 'Magic Carpet' despite the 25/1. One to track NTO and see how he stands up the form. Requested an early start given his pedigree which gives the hope he is a better one. But, just a medium size and too green overall to judge fully. An average finish with the first two on the Stands Side. See ow he goes STO. If you work on the basis that racing Far Side of centre was a negative then Ayaar perhaps did terrifically well. Travelled well and a strong effort until getting tired int he last 0.5f. Trainer said of him in April that he though he was a "backward type, more one for a mile". Which either means he has developed better than expected or holds the form down. Shorter and chunky one and strongly built. Inclined to believe the 'bias' view at present and think he should improve a lot STO and adjust the view if things prove different. Newstead Abbey means that the three STO runs by horses that pulled clear with Funk Soul Brother at York have now produced 1 x clear win and two clunkers as short priced favourites. York form can be difficult to try to mould into a sensible story like it is not part of normal 'Physics'. The trainer made a WTRB report saying that NA had not handled the GF going when HYDK said it was GGF. NA race on the borderline of the Far Side strip but was never really going smoothly after a 1.5F bout of FFH early on. Clearly below form and worth noting that 4 of the 5 STOs for the trainer so far this year have been lesser efforts than strong debuts. He does seem to have them ready to go FTO these days. He does seem to get them to come back after elsser runs if sometimes taking more than one run. Dreamily running widest on the Far Side so the early fade perhaps down to that. Also green overall and a solid enough type to think she should compete to win a fillies' Open Maiden STO especially if the bias was real. Fantacise also running far side and perhaps better at 5F anyway. But one to check her 3TO if she runs before the others from the Far Side runners. Wrightington ridden by an A3 with Hanagan on Fantacise and looks a development project. Green and unbalanced at times and no worthwhile response in the last 2f. But, with the size to compete of OR60s in nurseries when he improves fitness and most importantly his mental readiness. |
