Hannon pre-race on his Website = "Alhebayeb is the first runner we have had for Sheikh Hamdan, who has sent us a bunch of quality youngsters, so, hopefully, we can kick off the new relationship with a winner. This is a lovely colt. He is a grey son of Dark Angel, who was bought by the Doyles ... Alhebayeb tended to be a bit on his toes when he first came, but he has settled down nicely and he has looked sharp on the gallops Sheikh Hamdan has been down on the gallops himself with Angus Gold, and we have also had Richard Hills, Paul Hanagan and Tadhg O'Shea down to ride the youngsters. Tadhg rides on Sunday so fingers crossed Alhebayeb goes in first time."

Time suggests rain had not got in that much and a moderate performance overall. That view backed up by the next race being run in 60.07s by an OR59 rated 3yo carrying 1lbs less.

Alhebayeb cost 170,000gns which is ridiculous on pedigree grounds. Interesting to note that he was bought by the Doyles (Agents Peter and son Ross who 'pair up' with Richard Senior & Junior at the sales, dad with dad, son with son) who have been working with the Hannons for decades and played a big part in there success. Helping to buy the 'right' horses underpinning what the training side then prepares. Now, if you wanted to point a finger at the relative lack of success of the Maktoum operations, on return per £1 spent, then the Agents they use and the 'buying' would be very near the top of the list of areas to improve. But, the Maktoums seem ridiculously loyal and Angus Gold for Hamdan and John Ferguson for Sheikh Mohammed seem to be able to carry on for decades without any analysis of their performance being done. Too many small ones, too much 'Pedigree Chasing' and so on. At present refusing to buy stock by Coolmore stallions, Galileo et al, is another problem. But, interesting to see how Hamdan goes this year with the Doyles and Hannons on board to beef up the buying side. Also interesting to see how the Hannons go buying more expensive ones.

Difficult to judge the horses ont he day given the foul cold weather and rugs but Alhebayeb did not stand out. Another ok 2yo who has already won a weak maiden but how high can he go. Green here and too got behind a leading pair running a usable pace but took a fair time to get to them. On the circumstantials side if this was one of the better ones wouldn't he have started at a more important course, in a £10k bonus race, with Hanagan available rather than in France? etc. Seems like one to see how he goes rather than follow and will he paddle around in a lesser Novice race NTO?

Hardy Red smaller than the winner but a neat chunky one. Strangled FTO to ensure he did not show up. Allowed to show his form here and it is ok and perhaps around OR70 but not true Open Maiden level. But, shoulf run a lot and will win something along the way.

Snow Angel perhaps late 60s nursery type and not one to follow. Ran ok in a soft race up front here but not seeing out the 5f. Trainer John Hills normally front-loads some competitive 2yos but the first three have not shown up well so far it you count this effort by SA as moderate form. More interest in the two males he has run so far to develop. But, they have both shown poor form so far. Is the trainer behind schedule or is the best of the early ones he has really moderate? Rioja Day must be better than he has shown and is he a slow developed because of his bulk?

Rosie Future the first runner of the year for Rae Guest. As a template he frontloads the usable ones in the first half of the horses he runs and usually in the first 30-40%. He also normally has his season winners fit enough to show up well FTO and usually place and the better ones can win on debut. Which makes you wonder what Rosie Future is supposed to be? Small and does not look like a sprinter physically, leggy and lacking power behind. Her pedigree says more 3yo and 7f+ at 2yo. In this season's '2yos of 2012' he seems to answer the question by saying she is small so will be out mid-season. But then says start 6f or perhaps wait for 7f. He also denoted her his 'Bargain Buy' meaning he thinks she is competitive to win at 2yo. Given all that you would think she was going well to start early over 5f. But, blown away by an average pace and assisted by being too green. OR60s on looks at best. You would presume the trainer will take a bit of time and bring her back at 6f or 7f and she should be ready to show all of what she can so STO.

Trainer David Evans has only a handful of 2yos this year compared to previous years and has had just 2 winners of 3 races. Luckster a late debut and uncompetitive in 2 races so far. Too green over 6f FTO and does not look like a 5f horse and left behind here. Might be another who needs 7f+ and perhaps ok in an early 7f seller as he is a bit bigger than the rabbit who often end up in those events..

[Update] - Hannon's website 2 days after the race = "Obviously, we were also delighted that our first runner for Sheikh Hamdan won. Tadhg O'Shea had been down to ride Alhebayeb on the gallops and liked him then, and, though they missed the break and the colt ran green, he won a bit cosily in the end, so that was very encouraging" = No mention of future plans, because they are working through Gold so cannot make comments themselves? Or because he is an an ordinary one?
