SUMMARY
GS from SGS Previous day and GFF 2 days before. Going Stick reading from 06:30am. Medium to Stiff SSE Wind = Three-Quarter Tailwind from the Left.

Paul Cole on June 4th on his website = "Historically horses at Whatcombe seem to run best on good or faster ground. The gallops here are so good that they only work on perfect ground and after the rain this week it makes the withdrawals more likely. I always believe it takes four chances to get one winner. At the moment I am finding hard to get a horse in with a chance. Carton Blue goes very well at home but is unlikely to run at Leicester tomorrow because he ran poorly on the soft at Newbury, although it was a good race and he was beaten only by five lengths."

Bell on his website wrt Santo Prince = "... running at Leicester. He has looked in good form since arriving from the Breeze Ups and hopefully will show the promise that we feel he holds."

Trainer Bell about Santo Prince on Wed 6th = "we introduced a nice two-year-old called SANTO PRINCE. He started slowly and was held up at the rear. He was pushed along halfway and could never trouble the leaders. He is sure to have learned a lot from the experience and we expect a better show next time."

Hannon's website news Thu June 7th = "Richard Hannon stressed on Wednesday morning that Jalaa, who made a winning debut in the Sheikh Hamdan Al-Maktoum colours at Leicester 24 hours earlier, could yet run in the Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot rather than the Coventry, the race that was initially indicated as his target on the Oadby course. The boss said: 'We have not ruled out the Coventry, but Jalaa is by Street Cry, so is therefore qualified for the Chesham, and it certainly looked at Leicester as the further he went the better he travelled. We have had two winners from two runners so far for Sheikh Hamdan, and it has been a great start to our new association, and we have some more nice two-year-olds of his ready to run." It was Richard Hannon junior who was interviewed at LEIC and said Coventry.

Difficult race to get a handle on the pace. Field well spread at halfway with the first three within 3L off the lead with CBlue 1.5L clear. The others at least 5-11L back. Which might suggest a stiff pace but is seemed more to do with the jockeys on the 4th+ not putting there horses into the race fully in a number of cases. Final time relatively slow and the first 3 home finished the race off strongly enough suggesting a usable pace. 4th & 6th home also ran as if they were involved in a 2F sprint. Assela a Visual 6L back at Halfway and beaten a Time 5L. Plugging on and gaining on the stalling Stamford at the finish. Similar with Hipster who was a Visual 5L back at halfway and plugging on with Aseela at the finish, despite being a bit green, and beaten just over a Time 5L at the line. Which means a difficult race to read literally and judging the quality of the first three more on how they went and finished rather than on rating here.

Jalaa a likeable bigger type and going on strongly at the finish and comfortably but in a slower time. Better type in Review.

Carlton Blue ran despite the trainer's reservations about softer going above. Another improver from the Far Side runners in the NWBY April 5f maiden and Fils Anges is still to run from that trio and one to follow and Inka Surprise another to follow from that strong race.

Stamford a solid debut and typical of Zarooni this season. Some mark up for running centre track but how strong is this form if not read literally?

Aseela a competent run and could be deemed promising but see how the form develops. Trainer Brittain in early batch and often includes usable ones. Hipster green and just an average debut.

Hard to judge Red Avenger & Santo Prince because they were never put into the race in any meaningful way by their jockeys. RA very expensive breeze buy and taller and bulky. Unabalanced at times in his breeze and similar here and very green. Plugged on ok and should improve notably STO. SPrince given a regular bizarre Spencer ride and he seems to be working to his own agenda most of the time with no reference to racing in general or the public. Presumably he was trying to teach the horse to settle but hauled SP back, in two goes, to be 10L off a slower pace by halfway. Then Spencer packed it in early, another trait, after a minor effort. See the post race note from trainer Bell above. Perhaps the 'Schooling in Public' has finished now and Santo Prince will be allowed to run a race STO.
