Changed to GFG by Race Time (Rains shower?). FGF from GF 2 days prior. 2mm of rain on Sun night and 3mm of watering on Sun. Going Stick reading from 06:15. Medium Southerly Wind = Direct Tailwind. Stalls Centre Track. Slower pace and Slower time for Conditions. Amateur Handicap won in 71.6s by an OR45 older horse carrying 10 stone just beating an OR63 horse carrying 11 stone minus 5lbs allowance. Trainer Ryan had a record number of FTO wins in 2011 after some lesser years in 2009-10. He said before 2011 he had returned to targetting 5-6f 2yos for the stable which had been the foundation for his best previous year. That worked well in 2011 with a good batch of 2yos and hence the FTO wins. He produced two of his best in mid to Late May in 2011 (Bogart & Bapak Chinta) and then a number of FTO wins from late May through to Mid-July. So far this season he has had only 3 x FTO wins with only Indian Jade a 'better' one. He has said in interview he has 70+ juveniles for 2012 and thinks they are a good set. He had a strong debut by Ayr Missile on May 25th and this FTO win by Projectisle looks an OR80+ one and the Market knew a little bit about that although the best debut winners tend to get 3/1 and under. Projectisle the best type in the field and bigger and more range than Fadetoinfinity. Allowed to set a usable pace and responded well when challenged. Perhaps and OR80s Conditions level one. More important to check whether Ayr Missile and this one the start of him bring some better ones out who can win FTO. Has he been a bit behind this year? Fadetoinfinity smaller and lacking some build but neatly made and a trier. Around Open Maiden level but lacking scope. Pulled clear with the winner in the 2F sprint at the end of the race but comfortably held. Stays 6f+ and a trier so ok to win a Northern race soon but might end up a placer. Given the slower pace not a race to be delving much behind the big gap from the first 2 to the rest. Jamnean is a solid OR50s marker horse who runs competently but is limited. Poetic Princess smaller and limited and not even running to her early season 'kee plugging on' form level at present. Kendal Princess too small to keep up even in this race. Ayasha a Smart debut at a time when he might introduce a usable one but another small owner-bred one and not move that well and the 9/1 more a reflection of the stable than the horse. Not one to expect much improvement from. But, Lady Margeaux did enough in getting from a clueless last at halfway to a clear third ahead of the Garbage, if well behind the leading pair, at the finish to think she can improve to be competitive somewhere in the mid+ OR60s. Ok size in the context of this field as well. Trainer had Tudhope on this one and de Sousa on KP so presume Tudhope perhaps the preferred jockey now. Trainer does get winners that develop ok from moderate debuts and LM did enough to think she is usable. Mild improvement from Another Ponty 3TO and probably enough to get a handicap mark so see if she offers more 4TO, not to follow as such but for reference. |
