GSS from GS in am by race time. GS from GF 2 days prior. 18mm of rain overnight and up to 10mm as heavy showers through Race Day. Going Stick reading from 09:00am. Medium SW Wind = Half Tailwind from Left. Difficult conditions with Softer ground and a strong and blustery wind. Lady Poppy well drawn and able to win comfortably by reproducing the same professional effort as she did LTO. Mazeppa not really move like a sprinter and just pluggin on again. The form of his Ayr 2nd looking moderate with the 2nd, 4th and 7th beaten since to go with his defeat here. Seems likely that OOTBlocks and Someone's Darling appearing to run mildly promising races there may have been a hint at the moderate quality instead. Panama Cat losing ground early before plugging on to a volunteer 3rd and not stopping at the line but in size and effort not really showing what has made him short in the Market on two runs. Not one to follow. Bit more interest in Crystal Cove who led in his first 3 races, ran too freely each time, and failed to stay the full 5f including a late fade from 2nd LTO on the easiest 5f he has tried. Jockey tried to hold him up here well behind the pace and that did not work. Fought the jockey then found nothing when asked to make an effort (no unusual for a front-runner to show lesser form held back). But, probably not one to give up on in nurseries if he can develop a bit further and if the rain ever stops to produce some real fast 5F conditions later. Cymeriad small and limited and poor form FTO and hard to understand the mild 'Hype' around her. |
