SUMMARY
£10k Bonus Race.

S from G 2 days prior. 10mm of rain in last day. Going Stick from 06:00am. Rails in so Race Distance is as advertised.

Medium to Stiff Westerly Wind = Tailwind in Mid Race and Half Headwind from Left in the last 1.5F+.

Mixed view of race which seemed to 'fall apart' to some extent on the turn inside the last 2F. Limit Up going ok to this point but then faltered and veered Right away from the rail. Capo Rosso already hanging right before this and running wider of LU at this point. Starlight Angel had switched right before this to challenge outside LU and got a minor bump and carried wider. Our Diane's jockey had dithered over whether to go inside or outside of CR when he had started hanging right earlier. Decided outside so OD already wide on track when LU-SA-CR line bumped even wider. This left Botanic Garden & Colours of Nature able to make ground with a clear run near the rail and the others ran inefficiently.

Botanic Garden ought to be a OR70s sprinter leaking into OR80s on Review but taken time to develop from a promising debut. Some combination of running too freely and being held up, with being hampered and perhaps the York ground effect meant a poor run STO. Surprising longer SP 3TO and fizzy attitude in the prelims. Ran a bit freely and not finishing the race off. Market suggested they had fixed him a bit before this race and ran a more controlled race in midfiled and on the rail. Able to get to front rankby just railing properly inside the last 2F. Effort took him clear and he seems an 'as advertised' nursery prospect.

Starlight Angel a smaller one and an unusually ready and professional run FTO for the trainer. But, she had shown this trait on her Breeze at the sales which was competently done. Travelled ok in 2R and would have tested the winner more bu for being carried Right as she made her effort. On one side a good debut by trainer standards and a good attitude. Ought to be one to follow but the size a niggle? Does she hae much improvement and ia she actually below Open Maiden winner level. Perhaps one to see what strength maiden she runs in STO to see what value she is and whether to oppose.

Capo Rosso another one to put on the list of Dascombe runners not performing to their best List. Good size and build and ought to be an OR75+ sprinter. A Non-Runner twice because of softer going since getting tired on that ground on Debut and hanging right. Running on Soft here anyway and hanging right on a tight turning track. Feels like he was running because it was Chester and the owner was there rather than because this was the right Set-Up for him. Jockey made a WTRB that CR had hung right which he did. A test for whether the traine can 'Fix' him and get him to run to his potential. Better Going and a different track configuration NTO would seem likely.

Colours Of Nature the only runner of the season so far for trainer Alston who was never that interested in 2yo racing. Not had a 2yo win since 2008 and seems more interested in developing horses as 3yo+ handicappers. CON a never involved 4th helped by railing properly inside the right hangers and very unlikely to be of 2yo interest.

Our Diane another whose career development does not seem to be being helped by the races she has run in. Steamed off in front in the Hilary Needler from a wide draw and predictably faded. Then running from a Wide Draw on another quirky track. A slow start and then bumped and carried wide at points so unable to use the natural pace she has. Some excuse with being taken wide to make her final effort but not much response in the last 1.5F even with that excuse. Ought to be precocious 5f type that can rate OR70+ but you wonder whether the wet summer and the races chosen mean she is not going to be able to use that speed. You wonder what she could do running along in the lead on the far rail at CATT on GF, for example. But is she going to get that chance before the precocious zip lessens.

Showtime Girl did not show any later race response after being hauled back at the start and dropping in last. But ended up running 3 wide of the rail rather than on it and a bit green and head-up.

Limit Up ok for OR75 on size and bulk but had looked a zippy Short Runner on his first two start. Firmer going and an unhassled lead on the rail at RIPN 3TO seemed to bring about an improvement and seeing the race out. Beating the 'transitional' Botanic Garden with other solid horses behind. Soft ground, an extended 5F and a stiff track here seemed a real test of how 'complete' that RIPN transformation was. Going ok into the last 2F and 1.5L ahead at that point. Seemed to stumble or falter in some way by 1.5F out and then hanging right and a strong fade as he jockey said in the WTRB note. Just tired or a physical problem? See how quickly he reappears but like CR & OD another where you would like to see him in a different race set up to be able to perform nearer his full potential.
