S from GGF 2 days prior. 20mm of rain in previous 2days with 9mm overnight. Going Stick from 06:30am. Medium NW Wind = Three-Quarter Headwind from the Right. Field raced Centre track and Slow Pace and a lot of FFH in behind. Not a trong effect but at least ponder on a Negative Bias to racing far side of Group for Poetic Star & Hitherto. The second of those has shown little in three runs and keeps getting outpaced and not seeing the race out after plugging on from off the pace FTO. Check 4TO whether he is being hidden to prepare for Nurseries. Poetic Star, and Look Forward who got a soft lead so appeared to show a bit more than she actaully did, both come from a RIPN maiden LTO which has produced two long priced STO winners, both by clear margins. Efforts of LF & PS here suggest those wins relied more on improvement by just 'okish' ones in races which played out well for them than the RIPN race being unusually strong. Silent Footsteps the 3rd FTO win of season for Dods and back into profitable debut form after spending 2011 hitting the woodwork numerous times. This win typical of the previous 2 in that his winner was probably the biggest in the field and did show some inexperience. BUT, all three have finished the races off strongly and typical of his he has his 2yos fit for debut. You wonder if the Soft ground this year has helped those wins? Woul SF have got to the front here on GF going with experienced belting up a strip of concrete next to the rail. The greenness shown might have been too much. But, trainer positive about his 2yos in early season and that seems right so should have more strong debuts to come. This one runs for a 'Lucky Owner' and can develop and rate higher. Red Joker the first runner of the season for Alan Swinbank (or whoever it is in the background who does the training). Interesting stable to follow and one that seems good at buying competitive 2yos cheaply. Used to be a more 'develop with racing type' but now gets more FTO & STO wins. Stable had produced a profit following ALL STOS in 6 of the last 8 seasons. Restrict that to STOs between Jun-Aug and the record improves to 6 profits in 8, 1 x Break even and a 1 point loss in the 'worst' year. Also gets patches of profits following FTOs. A stable to take seriously and a solid debut by Red Joker and clearly not one to oppose in a similar quality contest lightly STO. Yorkshire Icon has ability but still not putting competent races together. Worst puller and FFH behind slow pace. Then took time to get going at 2F out AGAIN and dropped to last. Again plufgging on looking 'eyecatching' at the finish. A lot to 'Fix' at present and perhaps wait to see a more professional run before thinking of supporting him. Marabout a bit green and not reacting quickly when asked to make an effort. Left the impression he can show up better STO in the 'effort' phase. |
