SUMMARY
Soft as it was 2 days prior. 47mm of rain since June 1st. 2mm of Fri. Going Stick = UPDATE?. Rails at maximum width. Whole course has been Verti-drained since the previous meeting.

Stiff to Strong Westerly Wind = Direct Tailwind.

Broken race to some Extent because of the Strong Pace and a type of race not much seen in the wet spring. Leading pair hooked up after 1F gone and stretched the pace with the others spread out over 12L at halfway and no 'Ruck' but in ones and twos. Leading pair mostly spent with 1F to go and fading and walking in the last 0.5F. Which meant the winner came from more than 6L back at Halfway and being scrubbed along and the runner up at least 12L back at half. But, inclined to a postive view of the front 4 despite the unusual race shape and probably all are up to Open Maiden winner level, at least. Another race on the day, along with NEWC, where you wonder if a different result would have occured with GF going. Would the leading pair have been able to keep rolling on enough to last home and would they have stretched the field even further. Note that this field and the 5f handicap that ended the card both ran Stands' Side despite the Soft going. Handicap run with an average pace at most in a slightly slower time.

City Image Hughes ridden so Market First String. Slow start and green but able to win because of the race set up. But OR75+ type. Botanica probably more interesting if the race has been read correctly. Retained cheaply at the Doncaster Breeze-up Sales and the Video of the Breeze probably explains why. Starts off bucking and running a bit 'wild' then free and headstrong throughout the main breeze. Ok physical type in the taller, slightly narrow bodied type of the sire. Being at Hannons seems to have changed her. Headstrong wildness gone and now green and a bit hesitant in the race and put on some bulk. Appeared to run better than the winner in getting from 12L back (6L behind the winner) at halfway to be 2R inside 2F out and finishing the race off despite still being green. Made solid ground on the winner from halfway and might have won if a bit more knowing. Ok to follow.

Sand And Deliver a good size and running for new trainer Crate who is an owner breeder as well. He bought SAD's dam as a cull from Shadwell just before she produced Group winner Finjaan. She hasn't produced a winner yet but SAD looks OR75+ providing she runs less freely.

Star Up In The Sky another medium and neat one by Speightstown to end up with trainer Ryan. Did an unexciting but very competent breeze at the same sale as Botanica. Solid run here and another Ryan over-racer. Perhaps borderline for Open Maiden level. See how she develops.

Cross Pattee green and given and 'Educational Ride' by Buick but seemed lesser type than front 4. Spiritual Girl disappointing given she should have been well placed to S&P the leading pair but unable to find anything as if she was still too near the pace and perhaps not real 5F anyway as a narrow bodied type. Trainer Bell on his site on SUN 10th = "In the evening we headed to Windsor with high hopes for SPIRITUAL GIRL. Dropped back to five furlongs, she chased the leading pair and was shaken up and made no impression. She looks as though she is better suited by the six furlongs and will hopefully be winning soon." He has been talking up how well she had developed from debut before along with pictures of her working with We Are City who disappointed (Spencer) on her debut on the same day as SGirl. SG had got a soft lead on the rail in a so-so race FTO and still unable to hold off green closers and same lack of anything much in last 2F here.
