GSS from SHV two days prior. Going Stick reading from = [Update]. Stalls Centre track. Stiff to Strong SE Wind = Half Tailwind from the Left. Trainer Bell on his website on 13th wrt Santo Prince = "He looks to have come on for his run at Leicester and hopefully he will show some improvement for the run here." Hannon's website = "Hughesie was very keen on Toronado in his RP column last week, and we hope that the colt will make a bold bid on his debut in the opener. .... if he comes through this we might even look at the Chesham Stakes. However, our other horse in this race is alright, too. We have booked the in-form Buick for Hands of Time, who is a good-looking Pivotal colt.... He is ready for a run and also goes well" Hannon jnr after the race about Toronado = "'He's a nice colt and he knew his job. He does want further and so we'll put him in the Chesham, although it could come a bit quick. He has the luckiest bunch of owners and is a lovely prospect, especially for next year.' Hannon jnr named The Taj (Coventry), Lyric Ace and Alhebayeb (Windsor Castle), Mister Marc (Norfolk), Hairy Rocket (Queen Mary), Jalaa (Chesham) and Fleeting Smile and today's Nottingham winner Rayaheen (Albany) as other probables for next week." If both Jalaa & Toronado plus some other prospects ran it could be a better Chesham Stakes than the thin and patchy fields it often produces. A field srong enough to put the 'Cruck Realtas' into 'Real' context perhaps. A 2yo called Theatre trained by Aiden O'Brien looked pretty good belting away from an unknown quality field in Ireland on the day on his STO. Really strong finish and perhaps even quickened a bit and a typical compact and deep one by Galileo. Jockey O'Brien said they might look at running him in the Chesham. Then we would be getting somewhere much better than a normal Chesham. Just an average pace. First 3 pulling away from the others in the last 2f. Toronado a taking bigger type and good mover. Showed one of the strongest finishes we have seen so far and looking the real better type that Hannon starts at the track. The 6f maiden in mid-May at the course this season gave us an insipid run in 3rd by Mysterial (on STO) for Hannon in a race he has won with FTOs with clear wins and strong finishes. The better ones of that type go one to compete well at Group level. Mysterial, despite the Hannon hype in early season, beaten again 3TO on the day stepped up to 7f. Meanwhile, the performance by Toronado here was of the type you would expect from his better ones in that mid-May 6f maiden at Newbury he targets. One to follow. One Word More a well above average debut by a Hills 2yo and that seemed partly because he is mentally mature and natural so able to fill in the bits himself that the jockey often misses in these runs. Shoter and heavily built one and see how he goes above Open Maiden winner level. Ayaar a bit sweaty and on his toes overall and at the post and pulled himslef to the lead in the race and never that settled. Set a good target for Hughes to test Toronado against and left behind by that one but pulling clear of the others with OWM. OR80+ but not quite getting home here and presumably needs to settle down. Monsieur Rieussec more promising than his 'Volunteer 4th' position and a bigger taking type. Got behind with a slow start and recovered comfortably. In a poor place to start the later race efforts and a bit green and taking time to get going. Good enough effort to get into 4th to think he is definite OR75+. Santo Prince perhaps borderline for Open Maiden level and ran much too freely here and the job seemed to be to try to get himn to settle. Produced just enough response in last 1f to try to go with MRieussec who went by him to take a mildly positive view of the border. Performance of Hands Of Time as the shorter price and talked up 'Second String' should get the 2nds pirces going out again. Travelled ok to the average pace and produce enough of an effort to get into a clear 4th but well behind the 1st 3 towards the last 1f. Started moving short and hanging left a bit inside the last 1f so a bad fade back to 6th. Nine Iron looked smaller Nursery type. Exzachary bigger and stronger than his position shows and travelled ok but eased after some mild hanging left after a brief forwrd effort. |
