GGS from GS two days prior. 1mm of rain overnight. Going Stick reading from 07:45am. Stalls Stands' Side. Stiff ESE Wind = Quarter Tailwind from the Left. Bell on his website on 13th wrt Star of Rohm = "..we are hoping will give a good account of himself. He has been stepped back up to six furlong which will certainly suit him better and we expect him to run a good race." Work picture on his website of Star Of Rohm from June 10th shows him working with unraced pair of Azrur & Hot Mustard. Check the labelling but he appears to being dealt with comfortably by Azrur who seems a dominant, mentally mature, natural ok good physical strength. 3 Pictures of Field around Halfway :- Race Picture 1 Race Picture 2 Race Picture 3 Apparently slower going but Fast Times on the day helped by the Stiff Tailwind. Preceding Handicap won in 73.71s by an OR64 older horse carrying 16lbs more than this filly winner. Depending what WFA to use that comes out around a late OR70s to OR80s relative performance here. Not high clas but the manner Rayaheen did it more compelling than the level achieved as such. With a solid pace that spread the field out by halfway she was the only one finishing the race off fully with the others all fading to some extent and hence the lowish form levels and some capable of better. Note that the leading pair at halfway came from the Widest two draws and crossed over in front of the filed around 1f after the start to head and join Rayaheen (see picture). As often the case the XF by the leading two not clean and a number were hampered behind with Super Simon & Gworn most affected. A really mixed group in Paddock Review with something for everyone in types. VP shows that the results mostly split the field by size and readiness for the day with four smaller ones at the back and some ok sized but oddly made ones through midfield. It's Taboo & Winged Icarus out of place just looking at the VP as a size & power scale. In summary. Rayaheen a good size but unlike her more compact and bulkier dam. Lengthier and more range. Relaxed attitiude and a good mover. Not looking a real speed type and with good scope to develop especially if she strngthens more. In which context her run seems better. Green but able to attend the solid pace with the odd niggle. Then coming clear in the last 1f as the more speed types faded. Going on best at the finish probably as if 7f+ would be more suitable. Worth noting she ran the rail which may have been some advantage but her ability seemed to make the diffeence. Likeable type and performance and on this she would add to a strong Chesham Stakes and up to winning that. Connections seem to prefer going for the 6f Albany despite the owner also having Fleeting Smile. Either way, competitive at group level and scope to develop. Looking at Star Of Rohm his career path F-STO makes more sense. Medium sized but rangy and a lot of his ability on being an active type and mover rather than raw power. OR78-84 sprinter type and ready and fit with natural pace. Which he showed FTO. But he also showed he is a worrier and fretful about things around him and reacting to things that Rayaheen, for eg, did not. Very fit and 'going light' around the loins and you can imagine his trainer saying he struggles to keep weight on the horse. STO he got into fast 5f race at Ripon and did not seem to handle the track and looked distracted by the experience. Given his attitude here that could happen if someone slammed a door too hard and he'd jump 6 foot in the air. Back to showing what he can do in the race by breaking well and able to set his own lead unhassled and put the others under pressure. Only the winner able to handle that comfortably. Fading late on as is 5f might be better and one who needs a Review check each time he runs to see how he presents. Super Simon also a pure sprinter type but more compact and strong and less rangy than SORohm. Cross noseband and kept a tight hold on in the prelims as if he can get too worked up and a free runner. Being held up in the race when he got hampered by SOR crossing to the rail and lost 3L then rolled ocross to the rail. Ok effort to make ground along the rail until fading later on. OR75+ sprinter but need an average or under Open Maiden to win and always vulnerable. Back to a taller one with Yourartisonfire and NOT typical of the bulky chunky ones of his sire. But OR70+ on size and showed more natural speed than expected in race. Another one retained at the Doncaster breeze-ups and another who was green and jogged through a poor breeze by a rider who must have had cramp or something. Where did Doncaster get them? Gworn in excellent condition but still looking green and part wary and part unhelpful in prelims. Running in centre track and lost 1-2L when hampered by the crossers after 1F. Ran a bit freely and hanging left at time but a moderate effort at 2f out even so and early fade. OR74-5 type so borderling for Open Maiden anyway. It's Taboo a smaller filly and not that neatly made and a bit light behind. Running for a trainer who does not get strong debuts any more and never did much. Got a long way behind by being green and seemed to do more than just plug on past faders in getting to a remote 6th at the finish. Below OR70 but presumably moves ok and a trier so see how she goes as a usable OR63-4 type. Al Muntazah a huge surprise is you were expecting another of those chunky little grey ones by the sire. This a tall one and rangy and looks ok on that. But then the niggles about how narrow and light bodied he is. Probably not 6f speed given the lack of obvious umph but ought to be OR72+ on size and better if he moves well and beefs up a bit. The sort a trainer might be saying how 'weak' he was as a 2yo whent he horse is winning 3yo handicaps. Similar height to Yourarteetc in the picture showing them going down together but lack of bulk also shows. Corn Show a good size but seems too flawed in set-up to be usable. Very lengthy in the body and seems too long and still 'Up' behind. Fit and ready but seems unlikely his set-up will allow him to move efficiently enough. Faded early and jockey said saddle slipped but that seems an excuse to dismiss. Zhuba still entered int he Coventry Stakes and talked up by his ebullient trainer. But medium at most, ok build but with some length and lacking quality. Not a 6f type on looks and movement and seems more likely to be a 7f nursery project. Winged Icarus cost a huge amount at one of the Tattersalls breeze sales and a balanced setup, deep bodied and strong. Bandaged behind here and another held on to as if he might get too fizzy. On a recovery run after losing his action FTO, apparently. Niggled along at times but seeming to need to be niggled along at times and outpaced later on before hanging. Looks better than he runs, if not 150k's worth. Last 4 smaller ones and looking for usable development at a low level for 3 of them. More interest in Trapeze who was not fit enough and very immature and green in the prelims. Even more stupid int he race. Has enough size to get OR70+ with development but has a lot of growing up to do mentally.4 |
