£10k Bonus Race. GS again by Meeting Start with 10-12mm of rain on Friday AM, 20Mph+ winds and 10 deb C for their 'Ladies' Day' sellout. Bit thin, that Frock, for this weather. Good from GS two days prior. Going Stick from 07:00am. but rain started at 07:00am with 10-12mm forecast for day. 10 Dev C only. Strong to Very Strong NE Wind = Half Tailwind from the Right. Another 'surprise' result with long SPs in 1st & 2nd. How to explain that. A reasonable Story perhaps possible if assume a couple of things. Firstly a Rail Bias with the first three home in a line along the rail for more than half the race, despite where the 2nd home was at the line. Those racing widest in centre track fading too early. Add in the Pace to that view with a solid pace and those that tried to attend it running away from the rail at a real disadvantage. The second part of the explanation would be that the SPs were just wrong and not reflecting the relatively small range of abilities on show. The 4 at 5/1 and under probably topping out just over OR70 and perhaps 2-3 of them real OR60s types in the long term. Which sets a moderate standard for an improver and certainly one with the biases in their favour. Starbotton had been entered in a seller since her last run but redirected here. Too green on debut and got hampered from a wide draw so never in that race. Ran prestty well STO in a tough race and showed ok pace STO when 2nd through halfway in a big field with a Norfolk Stakes horse ahead of here and another Royal Ascot runner just behind her. Still 4th towards the last 1F when hanging left and fading which hid the promise if you just look at the final result. Well drawn here and able to control the pace running along the rail. Able to produce a real effort but helped by the 3 that pressed her running wider all fading having had less efficient runs through the race. Presumably late OR60s type and a bit improved here and at the wrong SP. Bonnie Lesley also probably at the wrong SP given the standard she had to reach to place. Talked up a bit by the trainer before debut and failed to handle Ripon FTO. That track seems to be very difficult to handle for a number of horses because of the undulations. Watching replays of some races shows a range of horses bumping up and down and rolling around and getting unblanced. A 50/1 3TO winner the previous day from a STO failure at Ripon to add to the list of those improving for a flat track and being at the wrong SP. BL running the rail here but then switched out the centre track in the last 1F to make ground past the faders. Never going to get new the winner with that path and dubious what she actaully achieved but probably OR60s somewhere. Moss Quito ran too freely STO and raced settled here. Also had the advantage of a usable 2R run on the rail. So-so plugging on the get to 3rd given the advantages and behind BLesley at the line who started behind him and went on a tour of the track while he ran in a straight line. Therapeutic perhaps a bit over-rated LTO but on the plus side she did best of those who raced prominently and away from the rail. Perhaps one to give a chance to NTO if this run makes her value in the right set-up. Given the overall quality perhaps not too much for the future behind. Confidential Creek ran hard early from a wide draw and racing widest overall and contributed to the overall fade but smaller type and was probably very ready FTO. Annie Gogh disappointing and only one away from the rail, Charlie Em too clueless to compete but snaopther smaller one in the group. |
