S from GGS two days prior. 15mm of rain on Fri and 2mm overnight and rain stopped at 06:00am. Stalls Centre Track. Going Stick = [Update] Medium to Strong Southerly Wind = Direct Tailwind. Fahey jockeys = Orions Hero (Hanagan), Unsinkable (McHugh) & Cash Is King (Nolan). Fahey in his SLife article = "I run Cash Is King, Unsinkable and Orions Hero in the Maiden. They are three real nice colts, I like them all, but I couldn't tell you which one will run in front of which. It's getting to the stage where I've got to run my two-year-olds and they are big, nice horses that will train on into nice three-year-olds. They are three horses that will definitely win races and if one of them managed to win this I'd be delighted. I couldn't split them though. That said I have to and I'll put Cash Is King up as my each-way charity bet as he could represent a bit of value." Interesting quote in 'Second String' terms and a tough one for Pundits and the Market to deal with. Hanagan must be on the first string but trainer tips up Cash Is King at the e-w value one with the 2nd or 3rd string jockey on. Bad conditions and ground on the day. Slow times, seemed to be track biases and few horses handling the going and extended finishing distances at the line in many races. 3yo sprint handicap ridiculous with only the 5 horses that belted off together on the far side ever int the race. Those Centre to Stands Side fading early as usual. Winner handling the ground best ad winning by miles with the 2nd miles clear. Roger Charlton interviewed the day after and said how depressing it had been watching this meeting on TV with races runs like NH events and his worry was how hard the races were for the horses. He seemed depressed by the extended wet spell and how difficult it made his job. |
