SUMMARY

8mm of Rain Overnight but still at GS in early morning but with further rain forecast. Going Stick at 12:30pm = 8.4 Centre & Stands' Side, 8.6 Far Side. Medium to Stiff SSW Wind = Half Headwind from the Left.

Field ran in 2 Groups with 6 led by Annunciation (given an unusually aggressive ride by Hughes) running Centre to Far Side and 5 led by Storm Moon (Johnston runner back to leading after earlier hold up rides) on the Centre to stands' side. Both Groups hung RH after halfway with the Far Side group ended up towards the rail and the other group get fursther over than centre track having crosse dthe centre line.

Field not that spread out lengthwise through halfway by the pace and less than 6L between Annunciation (1L clear at Halfway) and Ahern as the last horse through. But Halfway positions to final suggest the pace was a stiff one and the first 5 home made up of Closers coming from off the pace (out of the headwind?) without changing relative positions and Reckless Abandon who is presumably so good that he could handle the pace and still produce his kick. Had RA not hung left again, he had veered LH FTO and tried to pull up at one point through greenness, he would have won more comfortably. Just a medium size but a very precocious natural with unusual zip.

Rating perhaps suspect and, in particular, Ocean Appluase seems high. On [39] he ought to be able to win a strong maiden NTO but seems likely he will prove one of those 'over-raters' from a Royal Ascot race that isn't that good.
