SUMMARY
£10k Bonus Race. Race in 2 Divisions in 2009-10.

Going Good at start of day with Going Reading 7.2 from 08:00. But rain due to move in from 11:00am before racing and continue through the Afternoon = Check how this affects the going and note that the two Divisions of this race are 65 minutes apart. Stiff to Strong Easterly (ESE a touch) which is a Direct Tailwind.

[UPDATE - 12:15 the course reporting 2mm of rain and consistent rain had set in. Going changed to GSG at this point. Going changed to GS at 13:20. Going Changed to S at 14:20].

Notably slow time although 1.5 seconds faster than the second Division which was run 65 minutes later with continued rain during that period. Field raced wide spread across to centre track and odd runner a little wider. Not the grouping next to the far rail as often happens. Essentially a staying race and suited to those that handled the going. The first two home drew clear in the final furlong but both fading and looking tired by the finish. In that context worth making some allowance for how poorly or moderately some horses ran.

Aside from Fahey in his Craven Team piece on the SL website = "We could have a good day at Beverley on Wednesday as the two-year-olds could run big races, "

Andrew Black on a small message service early morning = "Hoping Ceiling Kitty does the business at Beverley today.". Dascombe on the same service 1hr before the race = "CK missed the break on debut and ran on well. Good Draw today and should go very close" [Beaten 7L and his 4th so-so STO (at best) in 4 goes in 2012].

Ingleby Royale the third FTO winner in the equivalent race in the last 3 years (2 were Divisions). The last pair have been seen as better class and last year's winner was Lily's Angel who finished 3rd in a Group 3 for 3yos on this day at NMKT. She was 9/2 as the winner in 2011 & Above The Stars was 3/1 in 2010. IR presumably not that class but perhaps more early to mid season Novice type. Another positive for the just-back-Fahey-blind over 5f early.

Hillbilly Boy a positive for Bill Turner knowing a bit about the quality of his 2yos. Turner quoted that HB might have been his Brocklesby runner but for sore shins and perhaps a bit better than Just Past Andover on that. Did not look fit FTO and likely to improve STO. Look back at that debut run and he gets a slow start and the jockey gets seriously active and forces HB to make a forward effort early into a stiff pace which he as able to do. Then got tired. That ride makes more sense when you know the jockey had been told the owner had some money on HB. HB ran well here always in the front line and then pulling clear with the S&P winner who ran the rail while HB was wider. Probably OR70+

Big gap back to the 3rd+ and Twilight Pearl smaller and outpaced by the front two in the last 2F. But a solid debut by trainer standards and believable 5f 2yo pedigree. Perhaps usable at OR60s somewhere.

Ceiling Kitty ran better than the final placings read. Pressing the pace on with HB and still in a line of 3 with him and the winner until stalling into the last 1f. Excuse the strong fade late and if she can see a more typical 5f test out then can get towards OR70. Late Fade because of what though? HB faded much less for example.

Mayfield Girl ran poorly but inclined to give her the benefit of the doubt. On a faster, flat test, at DONC she made up ground from a slow start and seemed to produce a real forward effort inside the last 2F to get to the lead. Faded late but a solid debut even given the suspect nature of the Brocklesby form. Here she seemed to be unwilling to forward on the going and probably unsuited to it. The same slow start and managed to get back to around 3-4L off the lead at halfway and near the rail. Did not pick up 2F out and head a little up and not looking like she was enjoying the going. Jockey got busy with the whip towards 1F out and some minor, on sufferance response. If the attitude is not going wrong then definitely give her another chance NTO on faster going.

Kryena's Rose unable to match newcomer TPearl, for example and looks limited to low OR60s. No later race pick up and soon fading but probably underpowered and no flowering expected.

Others beaten a long way and SDestination rescued from a seller to run here. Might be usable back in that grade. Some interest in Moss The Boss STO given how the trainer's Red Style ran in Div II. That one had run much too freely FTO but then much better STO and looking bigger type in the context of that group. MTB not as big but ok in this group and took off running too freely from a wide draw here. Soon faded but one to check how he looks STO.
