SUMMARY
GGS in early morning from G two days before. But, dry and sunny day through to race time forecast. Going Stick = 11:30am. Light to Medium NW Wind = Half Tailwind from the Left.

Rail out 17yds at 6f start narrowing down to 10yds out at the finishing line.

Appeared to be a solid pace set by the two horses drawn next to the rail who got good starts with the one drawn 4 in behind them. Leading pair stalling by 1F out and then fading and presenting a Blockage near the rail and stopping those behind making ground and first 3 in positions to make ground around them. Average level Auction race which typically only produces 2-3 later winners although the 2011 edition a bit stronger. Hannon has produced at least one later winner in each of the last three years with newcomers in race all laters winers. 1-2 with runners with previous runs. All three of his reps here on later runs. Odd later winners have developed from the 'ruck' but the better, and bigger, types mostly get to the first 4-6 places. Which poses the wuation of how much 'Promise' a number who Closed up in this race, or were blocked and unable to make a full effort actually showed. On circumstantials a mixed development from that set with the odd later winner rather than this being a strong race with 5+ later winners behind. But see how that goes.

Front Page News the second STO win in an auction race for trainer Robert Eddery in the past few days. He had a good start to his career in 2011 with 2 individual winners from 5 horses. Both won Auction races on STO & 3TO. So a patterm seems to be there in that he seems able to get competitive horses for cheaper prices. They often show up well FTO and peak STO. FPN a bigger type in this field and still running green here. Bumbled through to the lead on ability without making an effort and still gawping around throughto the finish. Better than he showed here and perhaps a longer SP in a nursery if he can show further improvement.

Hannon ran three with two already having shown OR60s leaking into 70s ability. Boleyn ran her usual race but is presumably OR60s and lacks scope (check what OR she gets after this). Branson topweight and a bigger type and apparently lazy at home and his debut run was hoped to liven him up. Ran a bit free here so presumably it has and plugged on ok through to 3rd. Has more to show so ought to be better than 50% chance of an Auction winner. Moore rode Branson with Hughes on Red Adair but that one niggled along before halfway and never travelling comfortably. Some excuse?

Blackdown Spirit and untypically knowing effort for a Millman debut these days. Got tired but an above average effort by trainer standards FTO and if he can show the same improvement to STO that many of the stable 2yos do he ought to be OR70+ and winning an Auction race. The circumstantials fir with that view. Sibling to two winning sprinters for the stable and more expensive and more substantial type than that pair. Nominated by Millman as his 'Bargain Buy' in 2yos of 2012 and said he was a sharp type who should be out in May. The late start here a bit of niggle as a future winner but perhpas held up in training so the later kick-off.

The four horses in 6th-9th then present the puzzles over what they achieved, how much the blocking diminished their performance, and whethert hey can be future winners. Why So Fast & AGAScooby both running near the rail behind the leading pair and unable to find a way through to make their efforts. Either might have been mixed in with the Hannon placed pair. Bit more interest in WSFast as a Qatar owned one which trainer Williams should be trying to win with now rather than waiting for handicaps. FFAKing & Swift Cedar both got behind then trundled through to midfield with clear runs away from the rail as the inside pace line folded back. Both with trainer with 'mixed' records with 2yos. Check both NTO in Review and see how the 'midfield' form develops overall.
