Testing going and a slow time off an average pace. First three through halfway in a line together just off the rail with the other pair just behind. Halfway positions to final might suggest a strong pace but race actually played out as the horse that traveeled best in the Lo3 plugging on ok to hold off the pair in behind. Worth noting that the pair that faded early closest to rail wirh Red Joker lane4, Rad Paladin outside that throughout and Amelia Jay switching then hanging out to centre track to make a bit of ground later on. Race has ok record of producing future winners with odd better ones winning. This field looking just a competitive set at Auction level rather than having anything better. Field made up of 4 x smaller medium ones in PP, RJ, GB & AJ with Gold Beau the best built of those with PP & AJ lacking scope and size limited. Red Paladin a bigger type of sire. Worth noting that PP & GN both ran at the track LTO and did not fade so early but both of those race run in 3-4s faster times so this a much different test. Red Joker just a balanced smaller medium one with medium build. Proven on ground after a solid debut in a weak race where the 3rd-4th behind have been well beaten since. But travelled best in the Lo3 here and able to plug on and hold off some lesser efforts and probably a moderate performance. A little green at the finish at the top of the rise but hard to see notable improvement. might need a similar ground test to win again. First STO runner of season for trainer Swinbank who usually produces profits following then so a good start for that project. Amelia Jay a smaller one and lacking scope. Low rating for second here and would bot trust her to run to that low level. Trainer at the start on debut and has run the same non-race in both previous starts. Drawn widest bot thimes she had falllen out of the stalls away from the other horses then not responding to the jockey and lost ground immediately and go adrift. Drawn in the middle here and a slightly slow start but them responded to the jockey early and able to tag onto the slower pace. Hanging right and started making a bit of ground when out in centre track and late on. No interest and seller class at best. Worth noting new trainer has had two runners now and both have improved with racing. Red Paladin another test of the worth of those in the ruck, 10L behind the leading 4 who have developed in a mixed fashion, from the important 6f maiden at the York Dante meeting. He finished 5th and the 6th & 8th (odd run as fav in similar race to this) both well beaten since. The one winner from the ruck has been the other Ryan runner he was second string to on SPs. RP a bigger type in this group and still a bit green but learning better here. Ok effort at 2F out without looking to really pick up on the ground and fading late. Appeals as a bigger type who is still a bit weak to carry the frame and a slow learner. The one in the field with the potential to show more than they have so track NTO. Pastoral Prey a smaller ready one and a positive for the trainer to have got the most out of him early but the penalty for that is his OR is too high and he lacks scope and had not won yet. Didn't seem to handle this ground and an early fade having run better here LTO in a similar race run in 72.42s on GF. Hard to see where he can win other than through persistence and get the OR down or drop to claimer & sellers. Gold Beau took time to get going here LTO and then plugging on at the finish. But that race was run in a relatively swift 71.24s on official Good going so this race a very different test. He didn't handle the downhill LTO and niggled along at times here then got lit up by that and pulling an held towards the bottom of the hill. Never going well when asked to pick up and soon left behind and a notably early fade. Has a bit of scope and the type the trainer will fix and target right to get a win. |
