SUMMARY
1st Race of Meeting which was abandoned after 4 races were run because of a cloudburst that left the Parade Ring underwater and flooded some of the racecourse buildings. No Going Stick info recorded by the course.

Notably Slow Time compared to the following Maiden race run in 76.39s carrying similar weight. Slow pace to past halfway here before New Pearl started to increase the pace by 2.5F out.

Surprising race to watch if not having seen it live but just knowing the finishing order. As New Pearl goes 4L clear inside the last 2F without being asked much and Jubilee Games left behind then how on earth did NP get beaten? Short anser seemed to be that he did not stay. JG did not find anything extra but did plug on at his one pace without stopping and going on at the finish which was enough to overhaul the fading 'Hare'.

It would be interesting to go back and collect the summaries of New Pearl's future prospect after his clear win on debut at NMKT. What with all the hype and Bloodstook Agents talking him up for their major owner a lot of them must look ludicrous now. Looking back with hindsight that was a soft race overall and the ok ones behind underperforming for various reasons and NP just plugging away competently as he did here but over 5f on a less stiff track. Comfortably beaten in better races since and no this embarrassing fold when clear over 6f. The sort of horse Godolphin might have pointlessly bought after debut if he were not already owned by billionaire arabs. OR80s & back to 5f?

Jubilee Games won an even softer race FTO and his runner-up has also been beaten several times since including in sellers. Narrow and clearly lesser type than NP and unable to go with that one at 2F out. Won by staying on and presumably will get 7f+ so has a chane to win a nursery but how will this Novice win affect his OR when he needs a bit below OR75 to be averagely competitive (mental note on how soft many nothern races are when using the word 'average', perhaps that should be 'southern average' in the sentence).

Titus Titan running in the Novice on debut rather than the Maiden. This is a regular ploy by trainer Ellison and seems to encompass any quality of horse rather than indication 'they think something of him' in Punditspeak. As a realist the trainer probably takes the view if you are just here for a run why not pick up 3rd place prize money for the racecourse gallop. The downside to that view is the issue of getting an inflated OR for finishing close up in a slowly run race and having to spend 6-18 months getting it back down to something usable at 1-2lbs per well beaten run. Not a problem if you know the horse is going to get lapped though. TT cost £15k at the Doncaster breeze-ups in late April and his Vidoe shows a small chunky and compact one and typical of his sire. Does and organised breeze dow the rail but seems compace and straight legged in front and not really stretching. Shows a low and quick straight leg action in front. Looks unlikely to be suited by heavy ground and you would wonder what effort or kick he could produce on any ground. Perhaps better bowling along on quicker ground? Wearing a cross noseband but not pulling here after getting back to the leading pair after a slow break. Immediately left behind and soon fading as the pace increased after halfway as his build and action would suggest. Respect for the trainer suggests he will target him better STO and show what he can actually do. See whether that is in a very different race set-up.
