Going Stick reading from 07:15am. 6mm of rain previous day to change from GGF to GGS. Strong SSW Wind = Three-Quarter Headwind from the Left. Interesting Market, 3rd mild Punt on Botti debut in row with the 'usual result'. Stoute favourite drifting which is usually, REALLY, a sign the Market knows something. Trainer Fanshawe's Assistant interviewed before the race, another standard issue Public Schoolboy 'nice chap', who waffled on about how they never had their 2yos wired FTO and they always come on for the run. ATR's Cooperman said that he did not associate the stable with FTO winners and thought they had quiet intros. How can anybody LEARN with this bilge being passed on by the 'Authorities'. Look at Fanshawe's record.... so long as he leaves Spencer the Flapper off FTO who even nearly managed to get Sir Gerry beaten on debut. The trainer has not targeted 2yo racing much recently so he now has a 'quiet record' overall. But, in the last three seasons he has had winner the first win each year has been a FTO one. Usually with useful ones or better. In the last 5 seasons he has had just 11 individual 2yo winners (he had 8 in his best targetting year) of which 4 have won FTO and two have placed, the other 5 made the 4th-6thrange and NONE have been worse than 6th. He has his 2yos ready to run to a good level FTO and be competent and the good ones can win. Which meant that one that cost 90k for a major owner running EARLY for the trainer needed to be taken seriously FTO. Charlie the Assistant said that since this was their first runner they did not have a line to the form and were 'in the dark' over how good Badr Al Badoor was. Which is surely just misdirection or, a bit more kindly, dodging hubris. They knew how good BAB was to some level. Solid pace into the headwind and this seemed to sort the fillies out by ability. Bigger & better ones got to first 4 places, 3 by closing from being held up, the 4th home March sat close to the pace and not finifhing the race off fully after an ok effort. Perhaps some excuse with lost shoe. But a solid size and travelled well enough to be OR75+. Late fade looked like Hasopop's STO effort here and he improved 3TO so perhaps just indicative of develop-with-racing Botti debuts now. 5-6th fillies home possibles for Open Maiden level then Dusky Queen a Pivot Point in the centre and below Open Maiden class. Smaller and plain limited ones behind her. In particular Desert Sunrise & ghraa smaller-medium ones for major connections and bot made similar effort before early fades. Placer & nursery types. Pearl Sea bigger and bit bit green and raw but set an unnecessarily difficult taks by being hauled back to the rear by Spencer early. Strong effort to get through to 3rd and might have got close to challenging if not held up so far back. Palladius a solid size and rangy and did best after setting the pace into the headwind. Seems likely to be OR75+. Dixie Queen produced a moderate effort at 2F out after travelling very well. Some hanging left but never actually faded and still able to find some response late on. Appeals as being better than she showed here if she can produce an efort at 2F out NTO. |
