SUMMARY
£10k Bonus Race.

17mm of rain in previous 24 hours. Further Showers expected on the day. Going Stick reading from 05:45am. Medium to Stiff NW Wind = half Headwind from the right.

Very Slow time and ground conditions a real test and this a staying performance by the winner. Strongish pace given the conditions and a contested pace with the first three through halfway within 1L of each other spread out from the rail and AG only 1L off lead in 4th and niggled along and the jockey had tried to keep her in the leading line early. The winner (RFLR) also trying to be in the leading line early and probably helped by not being able to hold her position comfortably then slightly hampered to drop 2L+ back through halfway so running more settled and in an S&P position. Halfway positions to final placings tell the story to some extent with the two fillies in the leading 3 fading badly. Which means newcomer colt BG ran well to contest pace out wide and keep on best of the pace. Fly Fisher a volunteer third having been let drift 6L= back of the lead by his jockey then trundle into the faders in later race. Never involved at all in a slow race so a suspect '3' next to his name to read literally without some thought.

Trainer Ryan had a lot of FTO winners in 2011 but only 1 in April. He always got odd debuts wins in mid-April with better class ones so a good quesion is whether RFLR got lucky in a race that fell apart or is a better one? Halfway call between the two at present. As big as BG and won a little comfortably in the end. Not proven as a speed 3f but a better type than the trainer's previous debut winner this year and this one definite OR70+ but need to judge her in a more normal race.

Botanic Garden a first runner for David Brown who trains at John Fretwell's stables and this one for his landlord. Trainer tends to front-load some usable OR70+ ones early and they usually make the first 4. This one just medium size but a good rangy mover. Ran best of the pace and should improve well to STO. Ok for OR75+ open maiden.

This is the 'Tim Easterby' race which he has been debuting close to his best 2yo in (usually a filly) going back a long time (at least to Group 1 winner Pipalong). He has had 11 x FTO winners since 2005 and 5 have been in this race and two others in early season Ripon events. Which either means that Annie Gogh is the best he has or he has something tucked away which isn't ready now for some reason. He entered a lot in the race including those that ran in the previous day's Beverley races. Perhaps he does not have a standout this year. AG a solid size and a little green here and ran wide. Should be OR70+ but you would think Easterby will have to produce a better one somewhere else (HYDK or SWEL?) fror a real OR88+ one.

Lady Poppy another bad fade after running prominently but this sort of lack of development is common with the trainer's early runners. But, they often find a win when it isn't expected and the ground clearly a negative here. One to track for development.

Trainer O'Keeffe gets just a few 2yo winners and said before the race he only had 8 this year. But the earliest runners are often the best he has and he said he thought Royal Jenray was a strong type who was worth a try on soft because some of his 'family' had gone on it (poor thinking Jedd). RJ absolutely clueless in the race and strglling to gallop properly and run straight on the slippy goimg. BUT, a big enough specimen and usable and OR70+ so one to track for the future.

Trainer Alan Brown usually runs the best of his early fillies in this race but only gets rare wins and no promise from Sound Affects with an early fade.
