£10k Bonus Race. GGS by race time. GSG from G two days prior. 7mm of rain on Weds and chance of showers on day. Going Stick = 7.7 overall but 8.0 home straight at 15:30pm. Rails all at Maximum width. Light to Medium Southerly Wind = Tailwind down the hill and Slight Tailwind from Left in the Home Straight. Faster time and presumably helped by tailwind and ground that allowe dthe horses to stretch out. Simple race shape and story with no changes in position from Halfway (actually from after 2f run) to the Finish. First four formed up as two pairs racing together with the second pair 2L behind. Well Acquainted able to set a usable pace and start the final efforts at 2F out. Racing prominently near the rail often an advantage here (and racing prominently regularly a positive) and conditions on the day seemed helpful to that. First pair made similar efforts initially & duelled until Martial Art's power output dropped a little earlier than the winners. Second pair at halfway had a tough task anyway to get back 2L in 2f on solid horses running a usable pace and running downhill with a tailwind. But neither Athman nor RLegend seemed to handle the camber fully so they were never going to run the first pair down. Last pair then made up of one who handled the course but got outpaced by the efforts (Warrant Officer) and another less well made one (Secretori) who was hauled back out of the race by his jockey early then did not seem to handle the cable in the straight. Well Acquainted back after a break and up in trip. Had looked to be growing LTO and not to handle the firm ground at NOTT after running too freely. A lot changed here and settled in the lead in a set-up very helpful to front-running. Handled the course well and seemed better one the ground. Solid effort but with some advantages and seemed to confirm he is the OR76-82 range nursery type he looked earlier. Saw out the 7f well enough but on an easy track. Martial Law another to run freely over 6F LTO then settle better here over 7f. Similar effort to the winner but stalliing a little earlier and not seeing out the easy 7f that strongly despite the advantages of his position and run style. OR76?. Worth noting that trainer Balding seesm to choose his runners for this track very carefully. They usually handle the track ok as well. He ran 15 x juveniles at the track in 2009-11 for 6 wins, 5 x seconds & 3 x thirds, The one 4th was the only horse that seemed not to handle the track. A solid profit supporting all his runners in that period and an unusually good record even noting the smaller fields the course gets and typically in the 5-10 runner range. Usually a good policy to take anything he runs here seriously at an SP. Athman not really stretching out at 2F effort time and racing with his head slightly up. Found less than expected. No extra for whip and eased late as jockey had never really felt him going forward fully. Found a lot of trouble FTO and finished behind the front 3 in a big field at DONC but the 4-6th home have now been beaten STO and that race mixed form. Perhaps OR70s nursery type and perhaps one that the trainer needs to fix a bit. Rising Legend the one that most obviously did not handle the track. Slow start but recoved to sit 2R ok. Butm from being less than 2L back towards 2F out having been taken a bit wide to make a forward effort he hung right handed UP the camber inside the last 2F. Probably 4-5L back towards the last 1F. Never stopped and closing back to the leading pair and regaining his 3rd place in the last 0.5F. Probably worth allowing him an excuse here and he can rate higher. Warrant Officer a narrower and less powerful one and outpaced by the 2F out efforts. |
