SUMMARY
SHV from G two days prior. Meeting on previous evening abandoned during the afternoon after extended period very heavy rain. Going Stick reading from 07:30am. Meeting passed an 07:00am inspection.

Medium to Stiff Easterly Wind = Close to Direct Tailwind.

Seemed a typical moderate race where a Fahey newcomer at 5/1 seems value. Diggory Delvet another strong debut for owner David Barker for different trainers. Win meant that Fahey had had 5 debut wins from 7 horses in a 10 day period from June 28th after a break with no debut since the 20th. Some sort of batching going on? One of the 2 beaten debuts 3rd of 4 at a short price but hanging notably and the other 25/1 and well beaten. DD green here but just plain better than a moderate field with the two at shorter SPs running poorly but suspect anyway. Quote from Fahey's Sporting Life blog = "Diggory Delvet is making his debut and is owned by David Barker. He might just need the run but is sharp enough and I'd expect him to win this year, although maybe not first time.". Which seems to sum things up well. Fahey knows his horse is a bit green so might not expect to win FTO. But, he has not done a lot of analysis of the opposition and the Market has to deal with the somewhat mixed message = 'Ok but perhaps not OK now..'

Note the three WTRB reports made in the race. The two for the last two horses home seem ok and useful although the time for the race did not suggest the going was that soft. Blue Clumber had an WTRB made saying she hung left but that seems like one of those WTRB reports which is mixing up reporting symptoms with causes. BC started hanging left inside the last 1F but was not running a competitive race before that. Losing ground before 2F out and a so-so effort inside the last 2F. She has an OR84 rating which is presumably much too high but makes you wonder how she finished 2nd in the Hilary Needler which caused that rating. The race pace helped her there to stay on into the places but that was on much faster going. She did not seem to stay 6f on a flat track before that. How much is the OR84 too high? And was the going here more of the WTRB problem than the symptom reported? Did she just need the run as well after a break?

Armada Bay looked ok in his sale breeze at DONC on softer going and trainer type medium and balanced one with some build positive. Short SP here in a thin field but typically ran too freely early and held back to rear. But, a moderate to poor effort later on. Looked ordinary size in context of field.

Showtime Girl another to improve 3To and place 2nd for Tim Easterby on the day. SG too wild and unruly FTO and the getting behind and running wide when not handling CHES STO. Solid effort off the lead here and can rate higher. Grey Destiney a mixed pedigree but with a trainer who tries most at sprint distances. OK size in context of the field but ran much too freely and perhaps why the 5F runs. Check Review NTO and see how GD develops over further if he settles down.
