S from SGS two days prior with 3mm of rain on Sat. Going Stick from 06:00am. Bend moved out 4 Metres and Far Rail out 2 metres (mixed units again..) from inner line. Race Distance 12 yards longer than longer than advertised = nearly 7.3f. Why does the course not work in one unit range? Note that the stalls were actually on the Far rail and presumably to give an angle to the Bend which comes up very quickly. But, that means that Zadig for example was on the outside towards centre track and NOT on a rail. Light to Medium NNW wind = Up to Quarter Headwind from the Right. Slower pace and whole field within 2L of lead at Halfway at the top of the straight. Elnadancer a medium one with solid build if a bit taller and rangier than the typical chunky ones by the sire. Staying on well over 6f on debut. Able to sit outside the leader and take the lead off him by 2.5F on the way he travelled. Solid effort when challenged and going on well at the finish. Late OR70s in OR80s and ought to stay further. Trainer Swinband regularly profitable to follow STO and this his second STO win this season from 2 goes. But, both off solid placed debuts and Dr Phibes the only other runner so far and a poor FTO. Burning Blaze a full brother to a 5f 2yo winner who ended up racing over 8f in nurseries. Another one of thoise short priced debuts for Ryan with expensive ones. Slow year for FTO wins for Ryan so far after lots in 2011. 4 x FTO successes so far including 3 in the lowest 9 x SPs from 34 goes. But some garbage in those short SPs and this defeat added to a recent 'Scottish FTO effort by expensive one' defeat for odds-on Mysterious Wonder. Mixed story to some extent with BB because on physical grounds he looks the part. Very deep and strongly built and a good sizw. If he can move himself ok he should be solidly OR80+ and the punt here believable. But, look at the breeze he did at the sales and you would wonder about him over 7f on softer ground. Looks willing in the breeze but gets unbalanced on loose turf at NMKT and perhaps not carrying his size. Then does not see the final furlong of the breeze out. You could imagine he looks good on an artifical surface gallop but will he go on this. The final 2F here looked like his breeze. Travels very well when going within himself but struggles to pick up when asked and gets a bit unblanced. Then fades in the last 0.5f as Elnadancer is staying on and moving well on the ground. Believable that he is the best horse here but needs a different test to show it. Check his movement TP NTO. Fahey has started fillies in this race in 2010-11 with one winning FTO and ending up OR76 and another 2nd FTO then winning STO and beaten off OR82 in nurseries. Simply Shining an obvious filly against the males and a typical compact and smaller one of her sire. Usually available in chestnut. Did not seem to run as well as '2nd' suggests given the pace and she was left behind by the first two and got to second by plugging on at her own pace as BB faded and only as close to the winner at the finish because he was eased. OR69? or is she better. Let her go in a Maiden STO and probably moderate value anyway given the way this run is likely to presented generally. Hunting Rights a bit free in front but seemed to lack pace of the first two home and then not see the full 7F out. Slow 8f+ type despite the pedigree? Zadig the second runner for trainer Woodward with a Californian background and a half-sister to a Gr1 juvenile winner in the US in 2011 & full to a stakes race winner on the West Coast. What are these horses by Rio Verde doing in Britain trained by Woodward? Ponied TP to add to the US feel. Bigger than thge other filly SS and a bit more length. A bit lacking in build. Got unsettled in the stalls. Did not pick up towards 2F out and perhapos green and perhaps not handling the ground. How is this project going to develop? If you are coming over to Britain with useful 2yos why would you end up with Woodward with any trainer to choose from? Is he effectively employed by them? to allow them to have their own control & interest? |
