SUMMARY
SGS from GS two days prior. 8mm of rain in previous 24 hours with showers forecast for the day. Going Stick reading from 07:00am.

Medium to Stiff Westerly Wind = Crosswind from the Right.

Simple race story with first three home forming up into a Lo3 early with Mystical Man up with them but racing alone towards the Far Rail. A 2R behind them with and then TMM held up behind on his own by Spencer. Usable pace set and a test of the efforts the horses could make from 2F out. Uncomplicated & The Sixties producing the best efforts and duel to the line. TS rated 6lbs above Uncomplicated on current ORs and giving 5lbs but held by the filly. Pretty good demonstration of what they are capable of from the slower to average pace. Trainer Boyle said he had been waiting for better ground for Uncomplicated and she had been ready to run during her break from 3TO and had passed up previous opportunities but thought his looked a good opening despite the ground.

Medicoe a solid size and more competent here STO. Lost 2-3L on the front two at the 2F out efforts and a bit of that by lack of nous, But plugging on back to them at the finish as if 6f+ would be better. Ran here on SGS having been an NR in a 6f CATT race on GSS. Should be usable OR70+.

Oscar's Journey looked lower OR60s and the type the trainer will develop to win at a lower level on the AW in late season or over the winter.

Mystical Man did a poor breeze at his sale because he raced Head up and with it held to the right and then hung left. On debut at LING he did the same thing and ended up in centre track and losing ground and unable to pick up and make an effort. Ran away from the group towards the Far Side and perhaps to keep him near a rail and stop, or limit, the hanging left. Raced inthe front line for 2F+ and holding his head straight. But, when asked to make his effort the same lack of balance and hanging surfaced and he ended up on the Far rail and unbalanced. Has some size and strength if a bit too much Head & Neck. Needs 'fixing' to show what he could do putting a full race together.

The Manx Missile too free in previous races and Spencer riding presumably to get him to settle well back. So hauled 5L back at the start and at least he did settle although that put him out of the race with the leaders going a usable pace. When asked to make an effort 2F+ out he looked young and nothing happened and not moving that well. Jockey soon gave up and eased him. Vague interest in whether he grows up and goes better on faster ground givent he low OR he should get. Market might be informative on this occasion.

Southern Sapphire in the category of being a better physical type than the £8,000 breeze sale price suggest. The Stubbs' usually buy pretty well. On his breeze VT he looks an ok size in the bigger & slightly Boaty, Bits&Pieces type of his sire. Why the cheap price? Ran head up in the breeze and looking a stright mover in front and not really reaching out. Perhaps a bit narrow? Equipped with a cross-noseband here and a typically free-running effort from a Stubbs' 2yo and fought his jockey for 2f. Then got unbalanced and soon fading inside 2F out. WTRB report made suggesting this was due to the ground. But, perhaps also due to being knackered from running too freely and also from racing head up as he had in the breeze. If he isn't reaching in front then fast ground probably better and the Stubbs' 2yos tend to fins a way to stay even witht he free running. One to track fro development.
