SHV as it had been two days prior. 8mm of rain in previous 24hrs to early morning. Heavy showers forecast for the day. Going Stick = 11:45am. Medium to Stiff WSW Wind = Three-quarter Headwind from the Left. Stalls Centre Hannon jockeys = Hughes (AHeights) & Dobbs (GoC). Channon jockeys = Hitchcott (SBella), Catlin (LIcon) & Cosgrave (MSong). Hannon website pre-race = "We re-routed Amberley Heights from Kempton on Wednesday to the opener on turf at Newbury. She is not that big but has looked sharp at home, while Girl of Cadiz is ready for a run." Very Slow Time and testing conditions even by the standards of a wet summer. Slowest 6f race at the course since the start of 2004 season and only time above 80s in that period by an OR65 nursery winner (80.88s) on Heavy back in 2004 carrying 11lbs less. Slow pace into the headwind and It's Taboo handling the ground and geeting a soft lead and able to respond to the winner's challenge in the last 1f. Call her an OR70-72 type. AHeights given a teach-to-settle ride by Hughes and hauled back at the start but that proved ok in a race where handling the ground and staying 6f (this race 10 seconds slower than a fast 6f here) mattered more. EIS a medium and neat one and a loose move on her Breeze VT and seemed to travel ok here until getting tired. Probably ok. Channon looked to have started a set of sub-OR75 ones and Sorella Bella perhaps the first string on jockeys. She had done a work gallop with Linda's Icon before this race with LICon a small compact one and SB moving like a stayer and niggled along at the work pace. SB plugging on late here as if 7f ok but smaller type and below Open Maiden level. Hard to judge what LIcon achieved in getting 12L adrift running green in centre track away from the others then getting to a well beaten 5th by trundling past the tired fillies to had been involved in the race to some extent. Usable low OR60s? Girl Of Cadiz not really put into the race and eased early. |
