Going changed to HV by race time. SHV from GS two days prior. 19mm of rain from 10:00am Fri through to early Morning Sat and still raining. Going Stick reading from = No time given and showers during afternoon. Given as 5.9 Centre, 5.8 Stands and 5.4 Far Side.. Light to Medium Northerly Wind = Half Tailwind from the Left. Rain during the meeting. Slow Pace but Slow Conditions on the day and testing going. 3 x 6F races run at the July Meeting on previous two days all one 'Soft' going and produced similar times in 74.39s to 74.53s times. This race 4.15s slower than any of those on slower ground. Sectional times suggest the bulk of that slower time lost in the first half of the race with the last 3 furlongs here run only 0.51s slower than the final 3 in the Cherry Hinton stakes the previous day. The 4th & 5th furlong times in each race almost the same and Hasopop clear in the last 1f and 0.51s slower but not fully ridden out. This field race Centre to Far Side then winner hung centre in later race. Cherry Hinton field raced down the Stands' Rail. This race 1.4s slower than any at the Course since start 2004 season. 1st 1f = 16.31s, 2nd 1f = 12.78s, 3rd 1f = 12.58s, 4th 1f = 11.81s, 5th 1f = 11.77s, 6th 1f = 13.49s Why was Bircham such a ludicrously short SP? Smaller than the winner and an ordinary maiden win LTO. Because he was 'proven' on Heavy going? Hasopop gradually improving with racing and in excellent condition LTO. Rating held down by a ridiculously slow pace for his win. But a straight mover, raced settled and handled the ground and as well as being bigger than Bircham than was more than enough for a comfortable win. Botti interviewed after Senafe won a later race said he thought Hasopop was a 'Stakes horse' [Group Quality?] and ran here for experience before going up in class. Punted on debut so why so weak against Bircham here? Market has a lon way to go to catch up with how the trainer seems to develop his 2yos now = different from when he started. Two juvenile winners on card both winning 4TO after 3TO wins and from uncompetitive debuts then placing STO. Hajam returning from a long break and worth another chance on firmer going. |
