SUMMARY
Meeting & Race transferred from Newcastle with that course Waterlogged the previous Friday and abandoned on that day. The race at Class 4 level NEWC but downgraded here. Entries for the race re-opened and this a notably different field with neither previous winner originally in the entries. Note that the day's meetings at Folkestone & Newton Abbot also abandoned.

1mm of rain overnight. Light to Medium Northerly Wind = Quarter Tailwind from the Left.

ATR didn't show the race live nor any build-up. Eventually showed a replay after the ad breaks at around 17:40.

Storm Moon notably speedy and natural on debut and similar here. Listens and responds to the jockey like an experienced horse. Which enabled jockey Fanning to set an average pace and then slightly up the pace around 2F out. SD still around in his kickback at that point so jockey asked SM for a real effort. And a lot happened with the horse responding immediately and having plenty left to quicken his stride and make 3-4L on SD quite quickly. Fibresand not a surface which enables 'quickening' in the way that turf does and more suited to wearing opponents down with sustained pace as on dirt. Given that a pretty good response from SM. Winner was then heavily eased near the line losing 1-2L and could have found a bit more anyway. Likeable and tractable type who seems able to race in a controlled manner in the lead waiting for instructions from the jockey and then acting on them willingly. Presume he will either run in the Windsor 5f conditions race in May or the Listed National Stakes at Sandown at the end of May, or both. How he goes in those will presumably make the choice over which race to go for at Royal Ascot. Can rate much higher and a serious prospect for the National Stakes if he gets loose in the lead on that far rail. Worth looking back at his debut win at Musselburgh where he got over from a wide draw to lead on the stands' rail. The horses that raced in centre track that day faded early and at the time that suggested they were perhaps limited. The three that raced widest that day have produced STO a win (Rated who is a solid development type) and two places (Red Style & Princess In Exile - both lesser types but usable in OR60s events). So that race needs a rail bias factored in. For example - would Someone's Darling have been 2nd but for switching to centre track to make her later race progress? Why did Majestic Jess fade so early given he was on the rail?

Secret Destination an early runner for his trainer which usually suggests a competitive one at OR60s level, at least. This one has been seller entered but then diverted to Auction races. Raced centre track from a bad draw at BVLY FTO so worth another chance to show he was better than that. Ok size and raced more competently here and plugged on just ok off the average pace. Ought to be ok OR60s type but this form needs care in not being read literally.

Woodford Mill sat comfortably behind the leaders on debut and then made a 'pounce' as the leaders stall to go 2L clear. Looking back at that race two of the horses she pounced on have been well beaten in a seller and a moderate auction race. Unless Red Star Lady has got a bit more potential then her KTNA race was moderate. Trainer Fahey had already talked her down and presumably sees her as a nursery type. Ran disappointedly here even given she was running against bigger colts rather than smaller fillies. Travelled ok in 2R to the average pace but did not respond when asked to make a later race effort and looked either unwilling or not handling the surface. Lost ground on the front two quickly and not in line with how she travelled. But, the nursery type view seems correct even if she returns to running willingly on other surfaces.

Trainer Bastiman gets rare 2yos winners but if he has a usable one it will probably be the first one he runs. Hellolini has a believable 5f 2yo pedigree on both side which could be usable. But, after recovering ok to the average pace from a slower break he was outpaced by 2F out and fading by 1F out. The debuts are usually uncompetitive so not one to give up on entirely. Check STO.
