SHV as it had been two days prior. Rain forecast on the day before racing. Going Stick Reading = 09:30am. Stiff WSW Wind = Three-Quarter Tailwind from the Right. Rail Out by 9yds at 6f Start narrowing down to 1yd at the Finishing Line. Varian on his Website the day after the race = "He ran a nice race when second at Salisbury on debut and he has done it well. He loved the ground and probably didn't beat much but all the same it was a pleasing performance." He is right in not having much to beat with Ronaldinho again looking less than fully willing and laboured effort to get to a volunteer second ahead of not very much. Unless trainer Bell is not just talking to his owners' benefit with this quote from his website on Wed 18th = "Hot Mustard gave an encouraging display as he will have certainly needed the race. He started slowly and looked very green and had to be rousted along. He made some good progress over the middle of the race and stayed on at the one pace. He certainly showed ability and this might have woken him up." |
