S as it had been 2 days prior. 5mm of rain the previous evening. Going Stick reading from 07:00am. Medium to Stiff SW Wind = Half Headwind From the Right Bell website Sun Jul 15th = ... HUNTSMANS CLOSE who should have a decent chance. He has pleased us with his work and hopefully should give a good account of himself. Trainer Tompkins very positive about Toparichi in early season Stable Tour. Odd to see his debut in Blinkers and they seemed to get him running too freely in a typical 'jog' for a Maiden at the course. Tompkins writning on his, very good, website the day after the race = "Topamichi ran much better than his finishing place suggests and he is sure to improve considerably on his next outing." Bell on his website on Weds 18th wrt Hunstsmand Close = "He took a keen hold early on and then cruised through the race and was eased to the front one furlong out. He probably got there a little too soon and we were willing him to keep going, but he was caught on the line. Winning his maiden should be a formality and hopefully he has the making of an exciting colt." Earlier work pictures and notes on his website on Weds 11th had shown HClose murdering Hot Mustard & Hartwright & the stable clearly knew he was above average but also had made that clear. Hot Mustard trundled about on his debut looking very green the day before this race while Hartwright doing better than Hot Musatrd and looking more substantial. Making a better job of hanging onto HC's tail. |
