SUMMARY
27mm of rain in previous 24 hours to race day morning and further heavy showers expected on the day. Report of "The track will be harrowed to a depth of 3.5'' on race day morning and the gallop mastered.". Beverley & Uttoxeter meetings on the day abandoned due to waterlogging.

Stiff SSW wind = Quarter Headwind from the left in the Back Straight, mostly a Headwind on the Bend and a Quarter Tailwind from the Right in the Home Straight.

Very Slow Time and around 1 second slower than any in 2010-11 and just over 1s slower than the two run earlier this season at the track. The previous two both run with directly opposite strong winds which were headwinds in the Home straight. This time slower than all but 3 of the 86 2yo races run in 2004-11 period. Which suggests the deep harrowing of the surface had produced a slow surface? Like many races so far this season, both on turf and AW, this was more of a 'staying' 5f test than a 'sprint' test.

Odd mix of runners for an Auction event with all 6 fillies with Perfect Words an NR (having run against 6 fillies and no males the previous day). Odd split of the fillies with two newcomers on Topweight taking on 4 with form who are on bottomweight receiving 7lbs. The four low weights include three that cost 800 of £s or gns and one that cost 2,000gns. The two topweights cost $25,000 & €15,500 so ought to be noticeably bigger types [Check]. But how will that play out against the 'ready rabbits' who know what they are doing?

Average pace, at most, and all fillies within 4L of lead ino the bend and AMD in the lead held and slightly free. UIS running freely in the back straight, again, and also held and a brief bout of FFH by MMojito in the back straight. Also Free runninf was SB who was held back into last from the widest draw and then crossed to the rail. In last into the bend but pulling hard and not settling.

Race played out in mostly sensible manner apart from pondering over the winner. AMD got a soft lead and able to force some of the others to race inefficiently but never fully settled herself. Made the usual effort off the bend into the straight and well placed to do so having stacked up the runners behind her. But, only able to pull about 1L out, at most, on the small rabbits SL & BE who were running wider and gaining a little less over UIS. Those three all fading more than AMD late and that a believable set-up. SB never settled and lost touch on the turn to the straight so never really involved. Slightly bigger one beats 4 rabbits, giving them 7lbs, assisted by a soft lead and staying a bit better than them in staying conditions for a sprint. The question is then what to make of Madam Mojito who was green at times and held up behind the pace. 3L back at halfway and losing a half length more through a lack of nous when at the kick into the straight. Took a long tim to start making progress and still 3rd more than 2L down into the last furlong. Seemed to respond a bit late and catching AMD before that one started to fold back. Overall view of a low quality race with nothing to really follow unless the winner had more scope than her size suggests.

Madam Mojito US bred and by a high class sire but a relative cheap buy and lack of size perhaps part of that. The sire has only got 1 x 5f win with British 2yos and the 5-6f wins he has got have been with high class types. MM being out of a Powerscourt mare does not suggest she is adding a lot of zip. Which perhaps fits with how the race went with MM looking best when picking up late to close the leader down having done nothing earlier to look any 'different' in the group. At a lower SP which can often be significant for the trainer (2010 the prime example) but can occasionally caused by a weak early race. This win meant that both fillies the trainer declared for the 2 divisions of the Beverley Auction last week have won FTO. You presume this one has been working with Tharawal Lady so that knowledge contributed to the lower SP. But, an overall take of a filly who will stay furthr but not really better quality and probably struggle in better races.

AMD also not really that much bigger than the rabbits and just about beating them without looking OR70. Some sort of OR60s and need to find a similarly weak race on what she showed here.

SL'Argent running a better race off soft turf but still not able to see 5f out fully, although slower Polytrack here, but a limited and OR40s type in the full view.

UIS perhaps second biggest in the group but not going forward from debut. Still running too freely and smaking just an ok effort in this group to get to 2nd. Fading early again and perhaps partly the free-running and the conditions. Another who needs to put a full race together soon in a weaker contest to have a chance to win.
