GFG as it had been two days prior. Going Stick reading from says Thu 12:45 (presumably Fri) Medium to Stiff Westerly Wind = Three-Quarter Tailwind from the Left. Odd race in a couple of ways. Firstly noteworthy for the huge variation in backgrounds and price tags of the 18 runners. Much of the field the usual cheap ones down to bargain basement scrapings. Three of the last 4 home cost £2k or uner for example. But four of the field who attracted high bids at 2yo Breeze sales including two who were presumably Sales Toppers. Fire Eyes cost £300k at the Doncaster Breeze Sale in late April and that presumably a record for the venue. Breeze video shows a taller mature model who stretches well in front and run straight while finishing the breeze off. Above average but hard to see £300k. Kamchatka cost 150k at a Tattersalls Breeze despite having nothing on the dam's side to recommend him. Breeze video shows a medium height but lengthy and bulky one of the new sire. Rangy mover in front and balanced overall. Bapak Pesta cost €100k at the Goresbridge Breeze and presumably the sales topper. Are the breeze videos on the 'Irish Field' website = check MPR link. While Star Spun was retined for 50k at Tattersalls. His breeze video seems to show a taller and naroow one and lookes more a galloper and a fast 5f here not obviously his game. Given that background why was Fire Eyes 14/1 and apprentice ridden? The trainer worrying too much about the low draw? Which brings the other oddity about the race into view with 6 of the field going to race on the far rail. With the known advantage to racing stands' side and the Stands' Rail often a bit of Magic Carpet this seems a rarity. Has it happened in a 2yo race recently? Hauled along by Municipal the Far Rail runners were ahead of the Stands' Side group, lead by QFlush clear on her side, from early on and perhaps 2-3L clear after 2F. |
