SUMMARY

G as it had been two days prior. 2mm of rain overnight and light rain clearing before afternoon forecast. Going Stick reading from 09:00am.

Stiff SW Wind = Three-Quarter Headwind from the Left.

Possible stands' rail Bias on day and BITJ ran the rail and able to respond to being headed inside the last 1F by Morawij's strong effort. But BITJ had shown that ability to respond to late challenges before so possibly just his race style.

Race broke up into competitors running a usable pace closer to the rail and others at the start. Three drawn nearest the rail broke ok and joined by Lady Ibrox making a big effort to get over to Lane 1 from a wide draw. Morawij broke right away from the rail and needed driving to get going and sit 2R in Lane 2. Hototo pulling in first half of race then taking time to get going and hanging right 2F out. Lot of slow breaks and drifting right away from the rail in the wider draws for various reasons. Which put many out of the race early with the first 3 home in the small group who got away ok and formed up close to the rail. Interesting to see how Lyric Ace was effectively put out of the race by being hauled back at the start by Hughes in his teach-to-settle mode. Lyric Ace ended up around a visual 6L back at halfway and beaten by the same distance at the finish despite having to find a gap to wriggle through. So he ran the secondhalf of the race in a similar time to the first 2 home but had given horses who were not stopping at the finish a head start. Usual question over the see-saw balance of how much further forward could he have sat without fading.
